An advisory is usually hoisted for minor to moderate impact events...this has major impact potential with deep, drifting snow possible and extreme cold. Seems like an easy decision at this point...and I think they will upgrade.

I don’t get the warning stuff. It’s 0 degrees out and accumulating snow is being called for. Do you really need somebody to tell you to be careful with that? Seems silly It does seem silly to a group of people who pay attention to the weather, but there are lot of people—my twenty-something son included— who do not know what’s coming until they get a notification. A lot of people will make plans and go out and about without a care in the world and then be shocked when conditions deteriorate.

Seems silly While I agree with you, not everyone has the sense or the desire to look at the data. Most people wait to be told, then get mad when it comes late or in some cases doesn't come at all. Common sense is not as common as it should be.

I have never seen a reason for warnings for winter weather. Tell me how much snow can fall and I as an adult I can figure out if it is going to be safe on the road or not. I do know the advisories and warnings are used as triggers for city county and state snow removal services but other than that why even have them. Totally different from severe weather alerts which I totally agree with.

Seems silly This sounds harsh but you can never underestimate the stupidity of people. I cannot tell you how many times my officers have had to risk their own lives for people that had absolutely no business being out in a storm. When the message gets out in advance it absolute makes a difference how many calls for service and rescues we perform. The reality is most people rely on others for their well-being and unfortunately do not perform their own due-deligence.

And I’ve said this in the past-we do not get storms and temps like these often. Many people have no idea how to drive in heavy snow, let alone be prepared in case they get stuck somewhere in frigid temps

I have 3 slabs of baby backs in the pellet smoker for Today’s race, and it is blowing through the pellets, trying to hold the temperature. It’s able to keep up, quit surprised

12z ukmet is suppressed with the midweek storm. Maybe a quick 1-3 before it collapses south. Don’t need the midweek storm if this one produces though! I’d generally agree with you, but I think you have to assume the general public is a giant group of morons.

Hell, I bet we agree the highest storm total in the region will be by the Great Lakes 😂 Seriously, glad to see you and the board back in it with great enthusiasm. It’s so much more fun around here when things start coming together.

Is a Blizzard Warning possible? Highly unlikely. Wind speeds will be high enough for drifting, but I doubt we get gusts strong enough to create white out conditions. I'm expecting an upgrade to WSW with the afternoon update given recent trends, though. Snownadoes?

It’s so much more fun around here when things start coming together. It sure is. Yeah the lakes definitely produce. Besides the available moisture (if the water isn't frozen)... There are microclimate enhancements all over. I hear there is an upslope mini mountain I'm the upper peninsula. Anyways yeah we are finally going to get hit
