What a chaotic looking radar loop. Cells are going every which way, colliding with other cells, a southeast moving line or gust front colliding with a northbound batch of rain and causes a vortex to develop. Cool stuff. Edit: Radar Loop 3 hr composite loop and set on fast

Small creeks out of their banks this morning and lots of standing water in fields and yards this morning. Must have been quite a bit of rain last night...

The first indication I seen that we had a lot rain last night was an earthworm graveyard on my garage floor this morning. I had 1.5" of rain overnight. I know I dumped 11/16" from yesterday's rain when changing gauges. So a total so far of 2-3/16". Edit: I just looked and I emptied gauge at 6:30pm last evening, 3/17/21

Quick morning shift thought today: Chris' handle is fox2ch. Until today I thought it was Fox 2 Channel... when in fact, it's Fox 2 Chris Higgins abbreviated.

We didn't realize how much rain we had overnight until the wife opened the blinds this morning and saw the adjacent detention pond, usually dry, had as much water in it as it's had in a couple of years

Long term trends look beautiful for a big producing season. Leave it to the flooding to screw all that up...

I'm a firm believer in keeping twitter handles short. I should probably update that to Fox2 Chris Higgins or something... but I figure fox2ch is easier to type

I’m interested to see if the old farmers’ tale of a hard frozen ground in winter yields a big crop of morels. We haven’t had the ground frozen/snow covered for 2+ weeks like that in a very long time. Biologically there could be some truth to that. Last 10 years have been so-so for me.

ustornadoes.com has some archived RAP soundings from significant events since 2005. Here's the sounding from the 2011 EF4 that hit the airport. Absolutely wicked hodograph. Theres some other local ones on there including the 2009 "inland hurricane" derecho and 2019 Jeff City tornado

Yeah, that's a gnarly sounding...40kts+ 0-1km shear with a sickle shaped hodo and 2500j/kg+ CAPE is a recipe for strong tornadoes. I had forgotten that the airport tornado was rated an EF4.

Another very notable local sounding is this one from March 12, 2006. I believe that day still holds the record for most tornadoes ever in one day in Missouri. This particular sounding is one that was associated with the supercell that tracked 800 miles from Oklahoma to Michigan.
