Just passed this on the a former intern... Nick Hausen... who is the AM meteorologist at WSIL in Carbondale. That is his area down there and he is going to post it to social media and see if anyone has found it!

Might be interesting to plug those last know coordinates into a drift model (or just do it by hand) using weather model analyzed/forecasted winds at those altitudes and times to see if you can narrow the landing site down a bit more.

Here is where I think it probably is based on its altitude and trajectory at the last known point.

My friend Nick has had good success with his post on the missing balloons! It appears he has tracked down the land owners and they will be out checking over the weekend!

Pretty much the entire 0z suite of global models is in very good agreement with synoptic setup for Wednesday. Upper level low in Nebraska to start the day, a surface low in Iowa with corresponding west/east oriented warm front, cold front sweeping through western/mid MO in the afternoon and low 60+F dewpoints through a fairly broad warm sector extending into the Ohio valley. Timing and lingering clouds/showers are almost always the notable mitigating factors for us, but assuming some sort of appreciable instability can build in combination with plenty of shear expected to be in place I think future SPC outlooks will need to be adjusted further north and east. The current SPC D5 outlook indicates as much already anyway. CIPS severe analog severe probabilities from the 0z model suite are really highlighting the IA/IL area in particular at this point.

January 1, 2014 to April 3, 2021 = 29 violent tornadoes rated EF4 in the entire World. No EF5 tornadoes.
April 3, 1974 to April 4, 1974 = 30 violent tornadoes rated EF4+ in the Ohio Valley / South United States. 7 EF5 tornadoes.
Think about that.

Timmer is beating the drum for an outbreak Wednesday and highlighted the river valley from STL and points S. He also had a very good reanalysis of the Super Outbreak of 1974 on this date.
Happy Easter!

Hopefully we get a fresh thread soon after Easter to deal with next weeks possible severe weather event/outbreak. Would be a golden opportunity.

Happy Easter folks!
As far as this weeks weather, I'm hoping we get a good severe weather day Wednesday. Prime area looks to be south of STL again. Too early to call off anything substantial this far north.

Not really sure how I feel about Wednesday around here. Hodographs look messy and the column looks to be pretty saturated. CAPE looks to be below 1000j/kg as well. The shortwave ejecting looks good though. Guess well see what happens

Maybe you all are seeing something else, but to me it doesn't appear that the hard freeze had much of an affect on anything last week. Kind of surprised with temps in the mid to low 20's like that.

I’m extremely surprised and happy. Only thing here that really was affected was the Japanese maple. It’s not dead though just lost a lot of leaves. Should come back.

I noticed the same. Wonder if warm ground temps helped out? It was also a dry airmass...little to no frost formation.
