NBC in Chicago is already showing clown maps for next week's storm, with the caveat that they are not trying to sensationalize.

18z GEFS looks pretty good for snow next week
10-1 mean is 2-3” across the area
There does look to be some key differences between the EPS and GEFS with the EPS hinting the shortwave may take on a negative tilt while the GEFS looks flatter

Just the kind of thing that drives our credibility even further into the toilet. No wonder people have trouble trusting us. We are turning the TV broadcast into the worst of social mediaorology.

If the HRRR is right, they are going to lose a lot of credibility tomorrow morning 😂 Nothing to winter storm watch over the course of 4 hours lol. They need to institute Chris’ one storm at a time rule.

They don't want to sensationalize or hype but purposely don't show the least snowy model (not that it would be much better). Got it.

Wow Chris I am so thankful for you in St.Louis, you are the biggest reason st.louis credibility has such great standards, without you st.louis would be in the dumpster.

My sister in Mass shared map from a top Boston met showing potential for 24 inches plus for big chunk of Eastern MA. It happens. Grew up there.

Clown maps are being posted on Facebook already. It's still a week away. Going to be interesting to see how often those maps change from now until then.

I think I just had a new gambling idea.
A mod posts the clown maps from each model for the storm at 5 days out. It costs 10$ to enter into the contest. Contest closes 3 days in advance of storm. Closest clown map wins. If it ends up raining, the winnings are rolled over until the next let down.

A drinking game could be taking a shot each time TWC says “bomb cyclone”

I know this map is way over the top, but it did bring back memories for me. My wife's family lives in Michigan City, Indiana, west of South Bend. The first time I visited her family back when we were dating in 2004, it snowed 26 inches of lake effect snow. So while this is not likely to come to pass, I can say I've been in that area when that much snow actually *did* come down.

looks like the NAM has come west a bit for the blizzard in the northeast, putting NYC more in the heavy snow band. That's too bad.

700 Fgen In 2013 they had a death band where uvvs were stacked from 500-800mn. Like -30: to -50. Upwards of 5.5" an hour. It was so absurd if you weren't in that band you got screwed big-time from subsidence

00z Icon is going to be an insane ice storm for the southern metro and a big hit of snow for the northern metro.
Nice start to the night there.
Wow, and it has a 3rd wave with another round of heavy snow for everyone.
Great run

There is a clear northern stream vort digging in. That would lead to Boston level numbers for someone that got the waves to overlap.
