Seems like this ended up being a classic elevation storm...locations above 700' did pretty well while locations under 500' got almost nothing. If only the Joe Q Public naysayers and complainers knew how difficult that is to forecast...

And BTW, STILL sitting at 33* 7 miles west of De Soto.
Edit:Just looked at remote unit and it hit 32* sometime over night. Even at 6am water was running off of outbuilding and boat. As the sun comes up it should continue in full force.

It’s still coming down and accumulating well currently. At 2.5” now. May get past 3”.

I think lack of dry air near the surface did in parts of the metro where precep rates struggled. Trying to cool down air by melting alone is very inefficient. We could have used a stiff NE wind feeding some drier air into the system at the surface. I was afraid that might be the case but I really thought dynamic cooling would overwhelm that stubborn warm layer a lot quicker than it did. I started to get nervous yesterday afternoon when the wetbulb was running in the U30s.

Looks like one last gasp from the deformation across the Metro currently before it lifts out. Models shifted NE with that SNSH activity this afternoon/evening.

Southern Memphis lows are overrated. Too many variables and wet snow sucks.

Mom says my pic was just on the news. Was gonna try to watch but I didn’t know you can’t watch live news on the website anymore. Sucks as we don’t pick up ch 2 signal out here.

I mean when we have to beg for dynamic cooling for snow in January it's pathetic. I'm sure the cold and dry is just around the corner

Snow is slowing down over here …. I measured 2.8 …. With compaction I will go with 3 inches …..which brings the season total to 12 inches ( 6 in Nov)

Sticking with 5 inches max storm total IMBY. Snow is winding down and compaction and melting is commencing.
Just north of Bonne Terre.
4 inches in November, 1.5 in December, now this 5 brings my total so far just over 10 inches of snow this winter IMBY. Not bad. I sure hope the tide turns for those with less. Still a few storms to go I'm sure. Hang tough.

No measurement as I have lots of bare ground. Went out to fill the bird feeders and I am soaked. Looks like snow, feels like rain and it’s cold. Happy for all of you with pretty snow scenes and thrilled that my sister drove home from the airport at midnight in the rain rather than this morning. Enjoy what you have. I so appreciate all of you and your posts.

I'm eyeballing it at 1.5" of rapidly melting SLOP in Edwardsville. 33F still some light snow hanging around. Globs of slush falling off the trees (one fell down the back of my shirt while I let the dog out - that'll wake you up in the morning!). On to the next one. Maybe next week's Tues/Wed system can redeem winter for us.

I’m not sure what an “ideal” ice storm setup looks like, but I imagine it looks like what’s being modeled next week.

Memphis Lows are great when the cold air is in place ahead of the storm. Unfortunately, with this one the antecedent airmass was literally one or two degrees too warm for the Metro outside of the higher elevations. The urban heat island and low elevation of STL really does no favors with a storm like this.
We're still kind of in a spring-like pattern currently...but winter looks to take hold next week.

Either I’m starting to turn into my father or I don’t have permission, but I can’t figure out how to attach photos. Anyway, something I’ve never seen before, snow formed a roof over our chicken coop, on the woven wire. A lot of limbs/trees down. Use the app IMGUR. Then use the the desktop version of the website to insert photo. That's what I'm trying to do. I get the "Copy Link" on the "Embed" toggle. There used to be a list on the right side of the page with several choices and now I don't see that.

That ice threat needs to be watched closely...EC brings in near-zero temps behind that storm.
