Switched to sleet/freezing rain mix, turned icy pavement white in Maryland Heights area. Made a bad situation worse. Roads and bridges going to be terrible for rush hour

At time’s moderate sleet/snow mix decent flakes, HRRR and NAM nailed this, GFS/Euro not so much

Had a brief bout of sleet about a half hour ago here in Lake St Louis. Turned the streets white . Doesn’t look like a lot of fun to be on the roads at the moment.

Going back and forth from snow to sleet and freezing drizzle.

These same two models did a horrible job last week... but today they shined. See... they still need us mets!

Switched to sleet/freezing rain mix, turned icy pavement white in Maryland Heights area. Made a bad situation worse. Roads and bridges going to be terrible for rush hour I’ve always found that some sleet on top of glazed ice usually takes the bulk of the slickness of the ice away. It’s still there but it roughs it up a bit

Lots of sleet on top of the ice in st.peters has helped a bit, but the compacting during rush hour will not be fun making it slick.
Be safe yall.

Mix of sleet/snow/freezing drizzle down here a bit ago. Patio, rock road and grass all covered in ice.

You’re correct the sleet and snow definitely helped traction. But most roads and highways are snow and ice covered.

And I'm just kidding. I haven't been asleep. Just working 3 straight 12 hr days.
Now I'm off. Getting ready to leave work. Thankfully I'm only 10 mins away. Terrible accidents earlier. Wow. So sad.

Definitely the biggest impact event on the year as far as roads go. With temps in the teens salt is not working very well

I have to say this has been a tough winter of forecasting to this point. However, this event feels like a forecast win.

Drive in from the IL side to Page/170 wasn't bad. Averaged between 40-55mph most of the way. Honestly, commutes are a bit easier since Covid. A lot of people just stay home.

Looks like it might be a 'here we go again' tonight especially for the southern third of the viewing area. Models are creeping the QPF field closer to St. Louis each run however, so worth keeping an eye on. Might be a more significant event as well especially for the southern most counties.

Is it looking like a mix of freezing rain, snow, sleet still tonight? What time are we thinking it starts? Maybe 5pm? (Iron County)

Just judging by current radar, I also think southern counties need to keep an eye on it. Maybe as far north as southern jeffco even.

HRRR keeping the precip from Perryville to the south while the RAP tries to bring it up to Ste. Gen / JeffCo county line. Should be light and brief even if we get grazed by it.

We had a rough week down here. Without power for almost 30 hours. Our Lab/Rott pup that was healthy or so we thought, passed in her sleep that morning(12 years). On top of that it’s believed our well pump was the casualty of the power surge we got when it did come back on. So yesterday we got that hefty fix/bill. But after all of that, we adopted a pup from the Southeast Humane Society. Her name is Libby, she’s loving the ice. Thinking a Weiner/Lab mix. Much needed snow day today after that run of bad luck.

Sgdragons, So sorry to hear about the doggie. Breaks your heart. Hopefully your new baby will fill a bit of the void. Here’s hoping all of the difficult events are over and you can just enjoy the weather.

Up to Polosi, MO to Marissa, IL now for tonight. All models have shifted north compared to 0 and 6Z runs. Getting to St. Louis is indeed a heck of a stretch, but can't rule it out entirely. I could see Union to Belleville/Carlyle, IL line being the northern most edge though.
