gfs has us getting a quick hit of some model fantasy snow rt before superbowl sunday, lol. Not much, just a southern low zipping on through the lower ms valley, with the heaviest snow for our southern viewers. Book it. Feb 8-9th does look like the next period of interest looking at the ensembles Not a horrible look midweek next week. There is a lead wave in the northern branch to coax down some “cold air.” Probably another borderline setup but aren’t they all in one way or another?

We had a rough week down here. Without power for almost 30 hours. Our Lab/Rott pup that was healthy or so we thought, passed in her sleep that morning(12 years). On top of that it’s believed our well pump was the casualty of the power surge we got when it did come back on. So yesterday we got that hefty fix/bill. But after all of that, we adopted a pup from the Southeast Humane Society. Her name is Libby, she’s loving the ice. Thinking a Weiner/Lab mix. Much needed snow day today after that run of bad luck. So sorry to hear of your dog’s passing. We lost our Golden last weekend in her sleep as well. Terrible feeling.

Thunder/lightning sleet and snow being reported near Springfield. Radar trends look good for where no one lives. Should be an interesting afternoon and evening.

Any timing for tonight’s weather? Are we still thinking the northern edge will be southern Jeffco?

Any timing for tonight’s weather? Are we still thinking the northern edge will be southern Jeffco? I think a general 4-8 PM timeframe will cover it. The latest HRRR and RAP have Perry County / Madison County as the northern most counties getting anything meaningful. Guessing southern half of St. Francis and Ste. Genevieve counties could get clipped.

That stuff in SW Mo does seem to be sneaking further north than modeled. Doubt it makes it into the metro but work keeping an eye on.

Definitely borderline, but at least it is something to watch. Looks like a cutter, but it seems there has been a SE trend this season. As Beaker said, the one before Super Bowl looks good right now. Between now and then, boredom in terms of winter weather.

Had a fb memory pop up. We were getting ready for over half inch of rain with temps below 30. Freezing rain. The year was 2011 Had a wicked sleet storm in my area in 2011, late January early February time frame, I don't remember the exact date. Inches of it, extremely slippery. My grandfather fell and broke his hip filling the bird feeders. We lost him that Spring. :-(

Not going to get out of the teens here today in Northern Wildwood. This cold air mass is impressive and was underestimated. Highs yesterday were supposed to be near 32*. Instead we had dropping temps yesterday during the day, temps 26-23*. 15* this AM colder than 18* forecasted. Forecast today was mid 20s. Not close to that today. Highs today 18-19*. An impressive sneaky airmass!

sgdragons, sorry for the loss of your dog and the bad luck with the well. My wife just had me take her to Moscow Mills to get a black and white Papillon. She has been missing her Yorkie since he passed 4.5 years ago and putting off getting a new dog because of the new house and general busy-ness. We were told he was around 1 year old, more like 5. He has a few 'bad habits' but working through them. Hopefully we, I mean he, learns.

Just another waste of a good cold airmass!! This winter that at early stages looked like one to remember...is going to be one to remember down the toilet drain!!Ugghh. I'm not so sure it ever looked to be phenomenal right here. Most of the outlooks were saying we would be on the west edge of the cold and most of the action would be to our east. That certainly hasn't panned out either with nearly all of the EC cities being snowless. I think I'd be more bummed about missing the precip to the south if it were a 6-8 in snow. An inch or 2 of snow/half inch of sleet and ice...no thanks. Overall, I do agree this winter has some serious making up to do if it's even going to go into the "decent" category.

Heavy sleet in Perryville. Roads are already trashed again. Riding the northern edge but it appears this will be impactful down here.

The long range FD is somewhat re-assuring. Basically stated that neither warmups or cool downs will become entrenched over the 6-10 and 8-14 day ranges.
I’m a little disappointed this year though. Nothing to track over Groundhog day. That’s been almost a staple the last decade.

Fun fact: Caribou Maine had the same number of SPC severe watches all of last year as St. Louis Missouri...4.

Fun fact: Caribou Maine had the same number of SPC severe watches all of last year as St. Louis Missouri...4. I'm glad spring is almost here so we can complain about the lack of storms. Seems like the only weather we can count on anymore is searing heat or flooding rain.
