Wrapping my head around what 'lots of below normal precipitation' means... If we get lots and lots of below normal precipitation, could we theoretically get close to or even above average precipitation?

This is an interesting compilation of all tornado emergencies issued and the damage rating assigned.

Dixie Alley don't mess around... Nope, definitely been very active the last 25 or so years while the plains in the traditional tornado alley has seemingly winded down over the same time.

It's been lightly snowing here quite some time. Light coating on the deck and cars. Starting to collect in the grass.

Id say MO doesnt look too bad on that map. But our normal snow isnt vey much to begin with so when you use absolute amounts you can only look so bad. Wow, the OH valley to the NE and parts of the northern tier look horrendous.

Ensembles have definitely trended a lot stronger with the SE ridge next week and hang up the boundary much further north now. Prospects for anything wintry is looking bleak if these trends hold. The winter of despair marches on...

The -PNA is really screwing our chances for any winter weather...models have trended much stronger with that. If the SSW doesn't reset the pattern, we're hosed. This has been the weirdest La Nina winter I've ever seen.

This has been the weirdest La Nina winter I've ever seen. It’s pretty unbelievable for how much moisture we have had to have so little snow

Just got home from rehearsal in Kirkwood and was surprised to see my car coated with snow. There's a pretty good coating on all the grassy areas. Headed south on Lindbergh and snow was gone by the time I was south of Gravois. Down near Lemay Ferry not much on cars either.

Yeah, model trends aren't good at all...I completely misread this pattern. Longer range progs do suggest a -NAO may develop into early March but the Pacific is probably going to negate any positive effects for us if you want snow and cold. That -PNA/GoA trof is a killer!
