This cool, rainy weather is great for the morel season though. I was getting awfully nervous back in February until the colder pattern showed it's hand this month. We were on the edge of the season starting a week ago(almost on pace with 2012) and this coming cold snap would have wrecked it. Places down in KY/TN/AR/GA may not fare so well...and the hard freeze may heavily impact the fruit crop across parts of the US. Same. Reports were starting to come in from SW Mo of small grays already the last couple days of feb. We should be in good shape now, keep it cool enough until April when they’re “supposed” to start fruiting anyway!

The worst thing about day lights savings is having to wait an extra hour for the models

12z ggem is single digits next Monday morning for outlying areas with 1-2 inches of snow.
A little more than “cool” weather.
12z gfs has multiple low 20s showing up.
Legit cold for this time of year.

So true! I bet 99.9% of people on here would rather have it warm and nice than cold and dry. Wasted cold for sure . It’s almost April, time to move on …

It’s just depressing lol I wasn’t arguing how much fun it was, just acknowledging it is impressive cold that can be linked to the SSW. Also, that is half the ingredients needed for snow so worth acknowledging it is showing up in abundance through the end of March.

You know and we all know the GEM has a significant cold bias, It will likely be in the 20's but low teens or single digits in not going to happen. Hell it'll be in the 20s the next couple nights maybe. It's only a big-ish deal because it's been such a mild winter.

So we have moved from “what cold?” Posts to it doesn’t matter posts lol It’s ridiculous at this point

It's going to be cold, it's chilly right now. it may be 10-20 below normal for a few days. It's different from the majority of the rest of the winter, but it's really not a hug deal. If it would have happened 2 months ago. highs would be around 20 with lows in the singles. Cold, yes, but we expect that cold in mid January. It's bad timing, the SSW and whatever else waited far too long to have a meaningful effect on our winter. Instead it's just screwing up a nice mild start to spring lol.

12z euro struggles to get temps above freezing in the metro next weekend.
Lows around 20 and wind chills around 10.
Very impressive cold coming.

That euro run sums up the winter pretty well
It rains, get anomalously cold, and then warms up just enough before the next system to be rain
