2-3 rows of counties highlighted to the north beyond the polygon...kinda weird but obviously the focus looks to be south of the Metro. SPC shifted the hatched wind region well SE and added a 5% TOR outlook near the outflow across S IL I noticed that. What's the watch, the box or the counties? Technically the counties...I can't remember if the local NWO can add counties to the watch or not...assume that's where the discrepancy comes from

Mesoscale Discussion 1374 NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0215 PM CDT Sat Jul 01 2023
Areas affected...southeast MO into southern IL
Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 427...
Valid 011915Z - 012045Z
The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 427 continues.
SUMMARY...Damaging wind potential may be increasing across parts of southeast Missouri into southern Illinois over the next 1-2 hours.
DISCUSSION...A cluster of storms from Phelps to Oregon Counties in southeast MO is showing signs of intensification and better organization over the past 30 minutes or so. Radar velocity signatures have increased and reports of wind damage and hail have been noted with this activity. While some semi-discrete cells continue, the cluster over Texas County has shown better organization and an increase in forward propagation. Very steep lapse rates and DCAPE values exceeding 1000 J/kg indicate potential for strong downbursts. If continued organization into a bowing cluster continues, an attendant increase in a swath of damaging winds is expected downstream across parts of east-central/southeast MO and southern IL.

Gust front just came through 7 miles west of De Soto. Distant thunder, a few drops of rain so far, under a Severe Warning and the cluster has weakened dramatically in the last 15 minutes or so.

Well what do you know.... concrete still has dry spots and my 'Rain Can" is bone dry. WTH Looks like some backbuilding just to my west might help some in the next 10 minutes or so. Don't want severe weather but rain is needed, badly.

When it comes down as quickly as it did it doesn't get a chance to do any good for the parched ground. Doesn't matter how much comes down.

Looks like rain will stick around for a little bit after the main downpours move through

When it comes down as quickly as it did it doesn't get a chance to do any good for the parched ground. Doesn't matter how much comes down. The other issue is the lack of deep ground moisture doesn't provide backpressure so what does manage to soak in goes down deep and the topsoil dries out quickly. The areas that have recieved multiple rounds will have much better soil moisture that's deeper and "locked in". Looks like we've got about an inch storm total IMBY between last night and today and it's still raining

Rotation around Nashville That part of Washington County is a tornado magnet. Always blows up just east of us.

Well, we got lucky that a little back building happened. We had a good shower and some close lightning strikes. Just checked the 'Can'. Not enough water in it to harm the ant that is walking in circles. Possibly .032" and that is being liberal.

Incredible rain. Flood advisory st.charles county 1 to 4 inches. Big drought dent. I always feel lucky on the st.charles side of the river when it comes to snow and rain.

0.67 in yesterday, 1.13 in today. Had power notably flicker enough this am to reboot all of my electronics, but it didn't go out. My lines are buried to the pole, so it was something in the system after that. Grateful for a good rain. Hopefully this puts a dent in the drought, at least in some areas.
