Continued grossity. We're living like vampires at home. West-facing curtains stay pulled shut on the patio doors, despite the fact that they don't let a "lot" of heat through. The only time we open them is to let the dog out, and I'm greeted with a mouthful of gross air and fogged-up glasses.
I hope the winter-haters are more miserable than the rest of us.

We could put a quicker end to this if we can sneak out a storm tomorrow afternoon.

Oh. That was yesterday Aug. 23rd. I didn't even think to check that. I was focused on today. We'll have to wait until midnight for confirmation of today's record...ya know...cause there is slim chance we could get a shower or whatever to pull the temperature lower.

So much for the humidity dropping today...heat index topped out at 129* briefly here with Tds once again in the low 80s and a high just shy of 100*. That beats the stations HI record by 3-4* IIRC
Absolutely brutal heatwave.

I know at home it doesn't matter much, being surrounded on all 4 sides by corn and beans.

I'm at 99/78 here in Harvester. That is a HI of 117 F.
Strangely it doesn't feel that bad. I've been desensitized this week I guess.

The Euro has Franklin making landfall in Greenland as an extratropical hurricane. You don't see that very often.

The GFS wants to bring the front further north meaning more big heat/humidity next week?! I think it's being too aggressive...but it's going to be hard to determine where the front sets next week! I'm planning on nice cool relief from Sun thru next week, but I realize the front is just SW of us in OK/AR etc. and it could certainly wobble further NW closer towards us. Anyone near the front is going to see many waves of pulse thunderstorms next week, but lots of dry time in between!

What is making this heat wave incredible to me is the humidity has essentially kept the heat index above 90 at night in St.Louis metro since last sunday. With very few hours below 100 at all the last 6 days.
This was a beast of a heatwave.

This was a beast of a heatwave. with the caveat that its a very different kind of heat (80's dew points vs 20's and 30's), this was the worst heat to deal with in STL since 2012, IMO.

It feels worse to me today than any other this week. Car temp shows 103 degrees when it was 99-100 every other day. Congrats to those lucky few in the bi state to get a shower! I’ve never looked forward to a cool front more in my life.
