Lee is really cranking at 165 mph at 5 am AST. What's the record for maximum sustained winds for an Atlantic hurricane?

Lee is expected to increase in size and become more symmetric over the weekend and early next week as the hurricane slows down. Recent wave altimeter data showed peak significant wave heights between 45 and 50 feet near the center. Dangerously high seas are expected to continue near the core of the hurricane, and large swells will spread well away from the system through the forecast period
Could you imagine what waves like this would look like ? Unbelievable

SnowmanJoe and to others want to view the eclipse, I personally would stay away from the “main parks” in Cape. There are plenty of neat places around the region to view the eclipse. Trail of Tears state park isn’t too far off, Apple Creek conservation (would probably be my pick if I didn’t live here), Lake Girardeau and many other conservation areas around Cape and Perry Counties. East Perry County near Altenburg is a neat little spot, that you could set up along the Mississippi River, catch the eclipse, avoid the large crowds, grab a bite to eat and then get back to St. Louis in under 2 hours. Luckily, our daughter lives in Cape. There are lots of places along 51 in Perryville, too. Totality won't last as long, but it won't be as hectic.
If we go to Cape, I'll be coming home on the IL side.

This is starting to be one of the nicest starts to fall ever. The next 14 days are 80 and under basically with nights 43 to 55 nightly.
I bet trees turn very early this year with the drought and peak may be mid october this year before Halloween.
My trees are definately beginning on the maples, with sugar maples turning orange and red in our area.

12z euro slams the northeast with massive hurricane Lee next weekend.
That would be a very bad outcome.
Record warm waters do open additional high population centers to some very strong storms.
Still think it will only graze Maine though, personally.

Still think it will only graze Maine though, personally. I wouldn’t rule out a U.S. landfall, but that seems like a very small possibility. The ensemble means are pretty consistent with a possible landfall in Nova Scotia.

Even if it doesn't directly strike the US the outer bands will cause all kinds of problems.

I am starting to plan for the April 8th Eclipse. Right now, I am thinking of heading down to Cape in the morning and finding a spot to park and hang out until the eclipse. Does anyone down that way have any suggestions? Do you think the public parks will be overrun with people? Im going to cape. Either hang out downtown along the riverfront and hit some bars (like maybe ebb and flow, and i think theres some micros downtown if they are still open). Another option is carbondale. I know a lot of ppl from st louis are actually headed to carbondale. There is a little bit of good news. Cape has always been short of hotel rooms, idk why, but the druries always kept competition out until now. But theres 3 hotel projects now underway now and thats going to add 264 rooms. Should be open in early 2024. I checked marriott a few months ago. The price of a room in cape is up for that date and i think marriott wanted 400. I might check the new casino hotel. I avoid a stay in a drury property in cape. The real issue is that there is one main highway that runs by the town and thats I55. You could go down 67 near wappepello as well (i THINK they are in totality). But with one highway, 2 lanes unidirectionally all the way to jefferson county, traffic is going to be tough.

I'm not sure about Lee being a monster that far north. If it stays east of about 70W, there's a pretty large area of 26C water...even some 25C. Then once it's north of VA, waters cool significantly. I'd think surf might be the biggest issue. Just my two pennies.

Lee is not doing as well as I thought. I agree. This may be a weak hurricane or strong storm once its land falling near Nova Scotia.
Models did a terrible job on intensity

To be fair, it's also expected to slow down and shear is forecast to relax over the next couple days. So it's likely going to grow. It's just not traveling into areas terribly conducive for maintaining any strength, if the model tracks hold.

Linh Truong FOX 2 36m · My last pic at my favorite spot was taken on Aug 31 and it was also my last day at Fox 2. I had so much fun exploring places with my dog, Jack and trying local foods. I learned a lot from some of the best in the biz and I made lifelong friends. I’ll be enjoying some time off before I’ll be on air again. Stay tuned! Thank you St Louis for 2 memorable years
