So much for an above avg...maybe well above avg Sept in terms of temperatures (Dave Murray). Things could change, but not looking warm/hot until next week and it looks short lived. It takes a lot of guts to put out a long range forecast so I respect Dave Murray for continuing to do it 4 times a year. He's who I watched when I was "falling in love" with weather when I was a little boy in grade school. The more years I continue to follow weather the more I truly start to accept and understand that long range forecasts (2wks to 3 months out or whatever time frame) are typically, but not always a can of worms.

00z euro had a CAT 5 hurricane with pressure as low as 918mb by the end of its run.
Crazy strong. Still think Maine might get hit by a very large, but weakening hurricane.

Just under .250" overnight 7 miles west of De Soto. Just slightly over .5" total event. Matches up extremely close to radar estimates. De Soto mostly missed out on appreciable rains. They sure got hammered down south though. Looks like Clearwater Lake will rise some.

I am starting to plan for the April 8th Eclipse. Right now, I am thinking of heading down to Cape in the morning and finding a spot to park and hang out until the eclipse. Does anyone down that way have any suggestions? Do you think the public parks will be overrun with people?

Does anyone down that way have any suggestions? Do you think the public parks will be overrun with people? If it is anything like last time (and it will be since there will be even more hype, social media, etc.), it will be crazy around here. I'm debating if I want to be around people or watch it from the solitude of my farm with my family.

Does anyone down that way have any suggestions? Do you think the public parks will be overrun with people? Assuming the weather cooperates... Yes. Parks will be full. Get there early to get a parking spot. The real problems happen after the eclipse. Traffic will be a complete nightmare. It will be worse than 2017. I-55 will be backed up from CG to St. Louis...guaranteed.

Did you get to experience totality? I was lucky enough my house was in the path of totality last one. Even a 99.99999% eclipse isn’t the same as totality

I got a room at the Drury Inn in Cape back in April of 2021 for this April. I thought the 2017 eclipse one of the coolest things I have ever seen. Seen a few tornadoes too.

Personally, being near a tornado or a Buffalo lake effect band feels more intense/exciting/memorable to me. This feels like a Northern Lights type thing where it is cool to look at, but not an adrenaline rush. I prefer the intensity of a storm, but acknowledge there are reasons others feel differently.

Looks like Lee has very rapidly intensified to a cat 5 according to Recon.

Looks like Lee has very rapidly intensified to a cat 5 according to Recon. I think Lee has almost tripled the rate of what is considered rapid intensification. Some of the hurricane models have it dropping below 900mb

12z euro had Lee hitting the extreme northeastern US as a CAT2/CAT3.
Lee will be a combination of one of the strongest and then one of the largest hurricanes you will ever see.

SnowmanJoe and to others want to view the eclipse, I personally would stay away from the “main parks” in Cape. There are plenty of neat places around the region to view the eclipse. Trail of Tears state park isn’t too far off, Apple Creek conservation (would probably be my pick if I didn’t live here), Lake Girardeau and many other conservation areas around Cape and Perry Counties. East Perry County near Altenburg is a neat little spot, that you could set up along the Mississippi River, catch the eclipse, avoid the large crowds, grab a bite to eat and then get back to St. Louis in under 2 hours.
