I have a lot more hope for Friday than I did for this one.
Have sleet here now

There's still not a great snow field from Canada into the upper plains states. I wouldn't think that would have anymore than 1 C effect on the planetary boundary layer down here, but when temperatures are tight it can be the straw that breaks the camels back sometimes.

The weather(or lacktherof) the past year or so has really taken a toll on my outlook on things. I'm pretty well over getting excited about potential weather and watching it fall apart. HERE HERE I thought it was just me. I still check in a bunch, but don't get excited, don't post about the weather on fb, and hate the hype and model worship on social media. It's not as fun as it was 5 years ago

Kind of a moot point when there's really nothing coming through the flow to get the cold air in place ahead of the storm.

Well, unfortunately, the forecasters got it right. Just once I would like a forecast to bust in our favor. I guess last Friday night did to some degree, but wasn’t what I was looking for.
A couple good things, is that the airmass coming in behind this isn’t completely bone dry and it shouldn’t shut the GOM off completely. So, there’s hope for Friday yet, especially if it’s able to get a bit better organized.
If Friday doesn’t pan out, then we have the 16th and maybe the 22nd-ish.

Mix of rain sleet and big sloppy snowflakes in Perryville. Obviously I know it’s going to all rain here right soon but still interesting how much colder the profile is than forecast.

Heavy sleet and a few sloppy snow flakes in Bonne Terre currently. Temperature is 33 here at the house.
Potential for a period of dicey travel before the changeover to rain later.

There’s been a heavy sleet mix here in Ironton. Parking lots are getting covered and side streets are definitely covered/slushy. Just got home from town and slid twice. It’s pretty slick right now.

Big elevation difference in High Ridge. Things are pretty dicey up on High Ridge boulevard by the water Tower (Elev. 900-950 range). Just wet with some snow mixing in at 30 and Little Brennan (Elev. 700 more or less)

I know everyone wants a good snow..I for one am still very intersted in Friday. Lets get this system done with and get the Friday storm across the dateline. There is a reason we say that... because it's true.
As for this evening... I could not be much happier about how this has played out relative to the forecast thus far. The sleet in southeast Missouri wasn't in the forecast, but also not a huge suprise when you are dealing with the impacts of evaporative cooling. You often get sleet and some weird precip types when you have the WAA battle with dry/evaporative cooling. Eventually, warmer temps will win and it will kick over to rain.

Slick and slushy out there. Getting some monkey testicle size flakes out there. As that heavy batch moves in from the sw..more snow and less sleet
