Yeah.. not too jazzed about severe potential in this part of the state. However, it is worth remembering the threat posed by lightning. We tend to poo poo it because every storm produces lightning. But it becomes a particular concern this time of year when the nu.ber of outdoor events increases. So for while tornadoes and high winds may not be a big threat in this area today and tonight, folks should consider lightning. Yes, it was 24 years ago this July that my 12 year old son, along with 3 other boys, were struck by lightning as they slept in a tent after completing a hike at Taum Sauk during a scout outing. Fortunately all 4 boys survived, but were hospitalized for a couple days. My son and another boy were airlifted after cpr was performed by some scouts from another troop who were curious about exploring the lightning strike not knowing the 4 boys were in the tent, until they came upon the scene. Lightning is a peril that should not be ignored.

Some nice showers with a few rumbles in my neighborhood this afternoon and evening. A few heavy downpours. I need to get a rain guage up. This will help.
Prayers for those in areas with the bad tornados today. The pictures and videos I've seen look terrifying.

Made it to 1.99" today. Puts me at 7.66" for April and 15.46" for the year. The EcoWitt Piezometer totally whiffs on snow so I'm probably closer to 16" for the year.

You essentially don’t even need weather models to issue a moderate risk after what happened yesterday.

We all know how hard forecasting can be and sometimes you miss big events, but 100 tornado reports including some huge potentially violent wedges with only an enhanced is a miss. SPC isn't messing around today though, an uncommon Moderate risk right out of the gate on the initial D1 outlook.

Hope I'm not jumping the gun, but no deaths reported (yet?) from yesterday is encouraging while also shocking considering the damage pics I've seen.

Hopefully it stays that way. That would be a major victory for modern weather forecasting. Those debris balls were bad and there’s certainly some EF4 damage in areas.
