12z EURO a little more broken and disjointed with the upper-level pattern... another one where it cuts off too early and it all comes down in a jumbled mess.

Very end of the GFS looking interesting with a strong cold front coming down from Canada. Although it’s pure fantasy land, historically it would be right on time. Last October was very snowy and cold here in Colorado. west coast is looks like it's loading up at H5 by the end of that run... hopefully a sign of things to come this winter.

Set off by a wicked Aleutian low... squeezes the EPAC ridge poleward, allowing a polar lobe to dive into the great lakes.
Gotta love how it all works together.

I have seen it mentioned on various blogs that TS Beta ties the 1916 record of tropical system "strikes" in the U.S. Just using 1916 as an analog I looked up the seasonal snowfall numbers since 1900. Knowing that 1911-1912 was a blockbuster year I came up with 1915-1916 having 31" of snow. Not our year though. 1916-1917 had what looks like 7". Book it. BTW....this weather has been amazing minus the smoke. Anyone else have the nagging scratchy throat and sniffles? Seems to just linger on. I attributed it to the smoke. I camped out Saturday night up in Calhoun and woke up with a burning, scratchy throat. I chalked it up to ragweed. seconded. This has been the worst allergy year I've had in my life.

I'm wondering if proximity to larger cities has an effect. I couldn't smell much smoke this morning, but many rural locales have been reporting smoky smell since last night.

18Z GFS shows a beauty of a pattern switch at the end of the run with a textbook negative NAO/AO and Pacific Ridge which dumps a huge trough into the east bringing a true autumn blast. If it where December or January it would of been beautiful. Watch it disappear next run though. Peek at 06z GFS yesterday. I'd say it's a wait and see for some consistency type of event.

Sept and oct are 2 of our driest months. Don't compare to 2012 until we have like 6 months of below normal precip and is 105 or hotter next summer for days on end. This year is way above normal water wise, we could use some average precip or even below. The surface might dry up but plenty down under I think. Additionally the drought of 2012 was going in to the hottest months of the year. Combined with little humidity is how we had the incredible heat that summer. Right now things are cooling off. If humidity levels continue to drop this time of year it will mean cooler temps in the mornings. A perfect recipe for vibrant fall colors!

Based on rainfall days, CoMo Septembers are the 3rd driest of the year. We actually see a 2nd peak wet-time, probably alongside the fall severe season in October & November. i.imgur.com/qBHOJvQ.png

Took at a peep at our NLDN data... pretty fun to watch this view... interesting view at the end, too-- You can see one of the southern flank outflow bands spark off a bunch of lightning... almost has somewhat of an MCV look to it.

FFW up along HWY 54 in MO. Turbo convergence looks to develop along the weak frontal boundary tonight... VVELs @h7 look pretty juicy. Looks to get a little bit of LLJ aid too.

EURO has a pretty nice longwave kink at the end of next week. 60s/40s would be the norm.

Thank you all for the kind words and well wishes and prayers. We sent Daisy over the rainbow this morning to chase the squirrels, rabbits and UPS/Amazon/Fedex drivers in heaven. Damn it was hard... so very hard... but it was the right thing to do. Thank you to everyone at Veterinary Group of Chesterfield for all their help these past few years...and especially weeks. Sorry to hear it, Chris... was nice to see her get to be able to spend a little more time with you all after the health scare... which was almost 2 years ago!... (feels like a lifetime ago in Corona-times) Always a painful decision. She had a great home and great family during her time here, that's for sure.
