Yeah I'm just going to say it I didn't say anything before because I was trying to be respectful. But the weak ! BACKSIDE ! forecast up to 24 hours before the event started was really really weak. Every single model on every single run for like four straight days besides the GFS showed this. So now when we get 10 to 16 in metrowide. it's kind of bogus to say oh the NWS and others had a great forecast when they didn't go to those numbers until 12 hours before the snow started and even then and that's weather service didn't even do it until it started literally started. I understand the fear of getting burned. but if you would have had a forecast saying we're going to get a foot of snow and by 5 p.m. on Friday everyone in the metro area is going to have three to five in and it's going to be pouring people would have taken a more serious. this was the biggest lock I have ever seen in St Louis weather history as far as my lifetime. End rant Chris had a good explanation on his Facebook live feed on why he don't jump the gun on the bigger numbers, and maybe he can explain it. It has to deal with a funnel. But I do remember he and Glen mentioned this had the potential to be a major weather event. That there is enough to keep your ears open.

I think Snowman should be allowed to make the first post on each new one Chris opens up! Also, can spotter reports still be made online? I don't have the link, but last I checked yes. May not respond to their Facebook messages because of the weather and Government Shutdown. Not enough people.

Yes. He showed two model accumulation possibilities. He said he's not going with the NAM, but that it has to be considered as a possibility. But did he say what HE was going with? I only ask because I have been away from my TV and I am curious what the boss is saying. He isn't throwing it out, but did say that is was pretty much a long shot. If this system stays put till Sunday, it could be a possibility. Just all depends. Sticking with his original amount.

I have already reported it to NWS, but I can confirm touchdown in Litchfield IL. It was about 1/4 mile to E of my house, I watched it pass by. Hail increased to over .5" just before it passed. It was a thin one. Now I hear a bunch of EMS vehicles rushing to the SE side of town.... Is that where the Country Club is? I heard the Country Club may have been struck? Yes. Also, Daughter and her EMS boyfriend is reporting Taylorville got hit pretty bad. They have dispatched him and ambulances there...

Anyone have any insight on how Radarscope sets their little lines showing the vectors of the rain cells? A lot of times they seem fairly accurate. But other times (like tonight) anyone who has eyesight can see the cell is moving ENE. But the vector like shows it moving SE. Obviously it's an automated calculation so some deviation and inexactness is inevitable. But this isn't even close. I'm pretty sure the storm vectors are coming from the NEXRAD Level 3 data (i.e. NOAA); specifically the SCIT (Storm Cell Identification and Tracking) products. I don't think RadarScope or the vendor (WDT) are doing the calculation. You are correct. This very subject was asked not to long ago on their Faacebook page.

In all honesty Chris, I always thought you felt the most comfortable was in the station. Yes, the remotes were great. Love the storm runner shots. But I always felt from your on air personality, you were at home on the camera. I always thought you needed your own personal dedicated spot. Now you need to brush up on your cheesy jokes, and 4 AM comes early (I know, I do it everyday), so start adjusting your schedule. You have a few months to do it in.

There were lots of 80+ dewpoints in IL with HI's at 110+ today so I believe your reading. What gets me is the networks use the Airport numbers for the broadcast. So it's going to show a lot lower then it actually was. It usually is a degree or two lower then I am. But that is a little drastic. I thought that maybe a pop up hit it making it lower, but all I see in the loop is ground clutter.

Ok, 3 stations all around me are reporting about the same temp of 95 Degrees and 80 Degrees Dew point with a heat index of 115. However the Airport here in town is reporting 86 Degrees with a Dew point of 77. Heat index of 97. Very odd.....

So just recently I have been getting a "Low Battery Transmitter 1" message. Being our lack of sunny days, I figured it had drained the battery. Well we had some sunny days, but the message kept up. After all the clouds we had yesterday and today, I woke to no display from the ISS. So before bothering you all, I went to the trusty good ol' net to research it. Found out the battery inside it is not a rechargeable. During the sunny days, the solar panel charges a Super Capacitor, and that is what it runs off of. When the Capacitor is depleted it will then run off the battery (Which is just a standard battery). They said this battery can last anywhere from 8 months to 2 years depending on sunlight. I've had my unit since 2012/2013 I can't remember which year. But I think that was a pretty good time for the battery to last. So my question is, what battery should I get? Remember the biggest shop I have in my area is WalMart. Other wise I have to drive an hour to either get to Springfield or STL. I've seen 2 suggestions so far, and just wanted other's opinions. They are "Duracell Ultra Lithium DL123AD2U" which is cross referenced with CR123, CR123A and EL123A. The other is "Energizer 123 Lithium". Is anyone of those fine (Or better then each other), or should I look for another brand? Panasonic has best cr123 batteries I will try to remember that. I got Energizer, that came in a 2 pack, so I still have one left. If I use that up, I will go for the Panasonic.

Crime Watch Daily (Weekdays on Fox2 @ 2 pm) is going to be doing a report on that guy from STL who died in that Bulldozer accident a few years back (I think he was a millionaire or something like that). It was ruled an accident, but his family is claiming murder. I think it airs Monday, but not sure (It may be during the week). Seems like an interesting story.

I spot checked a couple of hotels in the area and while several of them are sold out there is still plenty of availability. Prices haven't run up too much from what I can tell. The most likely won't till is get closer to the time, and they see the rise of demand. Most likely they (Those who booked), were smart to book ahead.

Based on reading some of the comments on Facebook posts from Chris, Dave, and the NWS it would seem a lot of people are in the "No, I don't really understand what the hype is about" camp. Mainly because most don't see this as a major event then like us, that are in to science. Most think of it as just another thing...

Alright, cast your votes. Polling is open until August 20th, 2017. I am thinking of putting in for that day off, a year in advance, if the computer system will allow me to go that far in advance.

I give it better than a "good", but not a "wow...that was the best movie I've ever seen". Not to give anything away, I was a little disappointed in how it seemed like certain things were rushed along a bit. Funny, because I was at work, almost a week after it has opened, and was talking to someone who has seen it, not knowing the other person in the room had not. Needless to say, I let one spoiler out....

And folks, listen to the description of this man closely. Polite, reserved, couldn't find a wife here so he finds a "perfect" one over there. Sounds like a mass killer to me. Throw in the fact that you can have automatic weapons in this country and my goodness look what you get. You can't stop crazy, but you can stop the stupid rhetoric. By the way, I still have not heard of one instance where anybody defended themselves with an automatic weapon. Why in the hell did we approve them for people to own in this country? I mean, come on folks the 2nd amendment? Okay, I want a grenade launcher. You draw a line there, why there? Technically that's pretty much like a gun to me. Some guns have no place in a civilized society. Of course it's hard to put the genie back in the bottle when we've got thousands of these guns around now. Hold on to your hats folks, there's plenty of crazy people left. I know, I know, technically it wasn't an automatic weapon but it was easily altered to be one. Those guns were all bought legally in California "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." Honestly that's about as vague as it gets. However, when you put it in context of the time it was written, it is pretty simple. Militias were made up of you and I. The "state" did not provide the guns, the individuals brought them with them to the battle. That meant individual ownership. The 2nd Amendment can be skewed by both sides, but the facts remain. The populace must be armed, not just for their own protection, but for the protection of the country, in the event a militia is called up. Different times than today, but I still believe "automatic" weapons are required by all citizens for all threats both foreign and domestic. I don't like getting into convos like this. However, you bring up about "The Time it was written". At the time it was written, the best person, would take 19 seconds to load their weapon. I believe we do have the right to bear arms. However, some of them on the market should require a special licenses. Also look at the "Well Regulated Militia" statement. Which means SOMEONE needs to regulate who and what a person has. Think about it... When I was a kid, we had model rockets, and remote planes. Now with the advancements in time, we now have drones that have cameras, and can deliver packages (Who knows if they could carry small bombs). The F.C.C. has now said they need to regulate them, because they can invade privacy and also cause issues in the airspace. Yes, when it was written it included the general public. Because there was no formed or orginised groups. However, I believe the written document was referring to what we now call police and Military. And also allowing the general public to own guns (Within reason), to protect their properties from local bad guys and from over seas. Now with that said, as I said before, I believe in the 2nd amendment. And as you said, you can pick that simple statement apart for either side (As I did). But remember when you say "Automatic" and referring to your original posting, back in that time "Automatic" was how fast you could pack a musket.
