A quick airplane mode toggle should take care of it. Power off and on takes too long. How lazy have we become? It takes soooo long to turn my computer that I can fit in my shirt pocket off and on again. There's GOTTA be a quicker way...lol. I never even knew phones had an "Airplane Mode" till I read it on a FB post that turning it to that will charge your phone faster. I talked to another person that told me it disconnects it from the service, and the reconnects it when you turn it off. Hence thinking it most likely releases the IP addy and reassigns another one. Just my thoughts, not based on anything...

You have to zoom in quite a bit to see them all... LOL Looks like one lone balloon cluster, with one balloon in Hawaii.

I am working on the chat Room, and will present it to Chris and the Mods when I have it ready. Currently, It is my own personal page, and chat room, but can easily be copied over to here, and such. Just a few small modifications. But I just started the hard copy last night, and getting everything lined up. It is a little different then the last time I set one up, being the board programing has changed a little since I did it last. Thanks for putting this together. Let us know when it's ready! It's actually coming along quite nice. Just trying to remember HTML and Tables and all that.. LOL I know how I want it, just getting it to where I want it at, is the thing.. I may have a somewhat finished look to it by tonight, and I will screen capture it, just so you all can get the feel. And if you see anything visually changed...

WeatherLinkIP logs all of the data, and if you register your station on WeatherLink.com, you can log into your station (click on the addy in my signature). You need the Vue and WeatherLinkIP. IP linkOk, got it then.

I use WeatherLinkIP as my console. When I first got the station, I was doing about a million other things and haven't put forth the effort to get connected to CWOP. I think you have to get all of your information verified before they'll accept your readings. I also think there's information on the NWS website about that. The WeatherLink console is good enough for me--and comes with the software, so there's no additional cost. Ok, I am more confused now.. LOL Are you saying the Vue will come with software to do this, or do I need to get software. They have two versions: "Davis Instruments 6510USB USB WeatherLink For Vantage Pro, VantagePro2 and Vantage Vue" and "Davis Instruments 6555 WeatherLinkIP for Vantage Pro, Vantage Pro2, Vantage Vue, or Weather Envoy w/ Free Virtual Weather Station". One reads as if the first one will do the job, then it adds that you should get the second one on top of that. It also adds at the end you should get "Add the WeatherLink Data Logger and Virtual Weather Station Internet Edition, the most popular choice for connecting your weather station to your computer and the Internet, and FREE Weather Exchange, the world's largest public network of weather station owners (requires Internet version to post data live)." So I am just wanting "Out of the box" kinda thing. So when it arrives, I can mount it, and put what I need on the computer and work on the other stuff. I don't want of those things that when it gets here, I got to wait because I need that "One more thing".

You need the weatherlinkip to run cumulus. Basically weatherlink is the connection between your console and the internet and your console and your computer. It will load to CWOP, GLOBE, and Weather Underground (I believe 15 min intervals) without your computer being on. Weatherlink comes with its own software so you can display data on your computer. It works fine, I used it for awhile until I found cumulus. NOTE: you can only open/run cumulus or weatherlink software, not both at the same time. Like I said earlier, it will load in 15 min intervals without a computer or with a computer and the weatherlink software. If you run cumulus you can lower those intervals. Say you use cumulus and set intervals at 5 min it will send info every 5 min with the computer on then switch to every 15 with it off. I normally turn my computer off at night (cumulus has a bug where it doesn't like to be turned off near midnight, so try to remember that if you do cumulus), the next day when I turn it on cumulus will load all the data since the computer was off so you don't miss anything. I may have just confused you more, hopefully not. I'm not the most tech savvy person so I'll try to explain stuff as best as possible. I think I get it. I can get the lower priced software for the internet reporting, but use Cumulus for the actual console. Reducing the cost by around $100. I will most likely install it on the wife's computer, when we get it, because her's is usually only shut down for updates. Mine is in standby when I close the lid, and don't use net.

Bringing the topic back around, I like the idea of a chat room. Is there a simple way to maybe replace the "help" button at the top with Chat instead? I think would be a nice thing to add. Also, would the chat be a separate page or would it look on something like AJAX? Would we be able to apply the same content filters on it? Would the content be archived in any way? Would we be able to make it access from something other than the site directly? One nice thing about the IRC channel Web setup is that it can be access on a mobile device. I am working on the chat Room, and will present it to Chris and the Mods when I have it ready. Currently, It is my own personal page, and chat room, but can easily be copied over to here, and such. From what I understand, the board will automatically size the picture to the per-determined size of the forum that the admin(s) set. Now I know there is a Script (Code) that can be added to to global headers that will automatically re-size the picture. But since the board does it, there really isn't no need to have it loading in the background, unless we wanted to set them as thumbnail pictures, to open to full size when clicked.

So I stopped using that software and found a software called cumulus. If you decide to go this route, make sure you read the faq and how to install it, otherwise it can give you headaches. It looks way better in my opinion It also allows you to upload to other sites. CWOP, Weatherunderground, PWS Weather, Weatherbug, and WOW. So, I am a bit confused. DO I need to buy the for-mention software, or just go with the software you suggested, which is free (From what I read.) Also will it upload to where the news stations can use my Data for the broadcasts? IDK what they use (CWOP?). Another question too, if it communicates through the router Wireless, does the computer have to be on at all times? Because my wifes stays on almost 24/7. But I shut mine down when I leave and such, since it is a laptop. I don't want to burn the lamp life up on the screen.

Ok.. Here is my question... I am, most likely, getting the Vue. I want to be able to update to all the sites. Everything from Wunderground to CWOP. What do I need? I read on the site I was looking at, I need this and I need that. I need to know what software I need to do what I want. And what hardware to connect it to the computer. I was looking at Davis Instruments 6555 WeatherLinkIP. Will this take care of it. I just want to make sure when I purchase all this, it is what I need to get onboard. Not this and that afterwards....

I know on the previous board, we had several suggestions and sites where to get your equipment and such. And I can't find them, because they were either buried, or lost due to time, and wiped off the server. Bur I thought it would be a good idea to have a place to ask questions that related to this very important and Pricey investment. We don't want to clutter up the main post on current weather with "How do we do this?", or "What should I buy?" So I am going to close out this initial post, then post my questions....

Figure we needed a space to ask questions and give out advice about the functions of Proboards. Now some of the suggestions may change depending on what scripts may be put onto the board.
There is a whole slue of scripts that can be added (As I mentioned on the other side). And I have been reading through some of them. I have been making mental notes on ones I think would really help out. But I am holding off mentioning any of them, so we can make a smooth transition. I know (Even though Chris should be enjoying his vacation some where where he comes back as tan as Dave), the mods and Chris has real jobs (Unlike me who is awake with the vampires and zombies), and can only dedicate the time available to the board.
But if you run across something on here that impressed you, that maybe no one knows about, or you found easier to do, post it here. OR if you have a question, post it here. This will free up the actual weather part of the board.
With that said, and I will talk to Chris and the mods on this... Is I would like to see an "On Board" chat room. I know how to set it up, because I had more then 1 in a single board. Now we don't need that here. But I would like to see it made easier to get into chat w/o going through add on for the browser and such. It would be very simple to set up and get to. I would do all the footwork, and programing, all the mods or Chris would have to do is, past the code I send them into the set up room, and boom, it will be open for biz. Once again, this is all pending on their approval. Nothing has been put into motion. But I think it would be really neat for the members to click on the board, then get into chat in just 2-3 clicks. I may even be able to put in Chris's U-Stream. Shouldn't be that difficult. But once again, I am not pulling the trigger on it, till I talk to Chris and the mods, and make sure it is something they want to do.
So with that said, post away!!!
