Officially we've had 6" of snow at Lambert this winter. That means we've essentially doubled the snow total of last winter. So when you think about how bleak this winter has been it could have been worse.
Just food for thought.

Listening to KMOX at 5:00AM (after the Our Father & Star Spangled Banner) to hear our school’s name was got me first interested in snow. We were in the parade of Saints so it took forever. And the list wasn't in alphabetical order, either. So you had to listen to EVERY school name.

I remember when it took six inches of snow to cancel school. Times have sure changed. Not better, not worse, just different. We have the cold this time as an added factor. Although in my school days the schools never closed for the cold unless the building lost heat or something similar.

Ice on the rivers will be impressive the next couple weeks. Angela Hutti just reported the Grafton and Brussels Ferries are shut down because of ice on the rivers

-9* in Brighton this morning. Was checking the yearly lows on the station and since 2014 we've gone below zero 9 out of 10 years. These severe arctic outbreaks seem to be getting more common. I can remember several discussions on here about ideal conditions required to get below zero. Then, when it happened it was kind of the same reaction as a 6”+ snowfall. But, now it does seem like any time a lobe of the PV decides to grace us with its presence, our ability to go below zero has become much easier. Used to be, gotta have 2” of snowpack at least, light winds, heck, even the moon phase mattered. Now though, we do it with 15mph winds and bare ground. Think what this morning's temperature would have been if we did have 6 inches of snow on the ground.

This map is WRONG! There's no hole in the colors over St. Louis. Each crayon stroke is a low pressure track. The least dense part of the map is our wheelhouse and these lows are going straight over our heads Then there should be no crayon marks on the bootheel. ;-)

We do also need some of our northern (and northwestern) friends to fill our rivers. That was one of my "trying to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear" thoughts. All that Iowa snow will help both of our big rivers.

If anyone wants a good cry or laugh..look at the snowfall maps for the next few days on the gfs, icon, rgem, nam..just unreal I saw a North American snow cover map this morning. There are parts of Montana and Northern Colorado that are bare ground. I wonder what year previously, if ever, they had bare ground in mid-January.

.73" of rain. I must have been "dead to the world". I didn't hear a thing. I heard the rain. But I didn't hear any thunder. Don't know if we had any or not.

If the GEM for Sunday works out, I'll be ok. One out of three storms this week is ok. A .333 batting average in baseball is pretty respectable.

Checking MoDOT cameras there's snow in the grass on the I-70 cameras west of Booneville, but not in Kansas City. And their map is showing all highways in west central Missouri outside of KC as covered.
