There are other examples of large tornados doing this sort of occlusion/deviant motion. El Reno 2013 and Greensburg both did loops and El Reno had an anti-cyclonic tornado with it as well during that.

Swingset Davis reports 1.08" since midnight and a storm total of 1.31" Sleep was a bit of a challenge last night, between the close lightning/thunder and the dog, who apparently needs to be up by my head when that happens. Our dog feels the need to lay on my head or stand on my chest during night time storms. She’s an Australian Kelpie and way too big for that.

I’ve seen some video of quite a bit of hail in Wright City in that storm coming down 70. Nothing real big but a lot of it.

If you are like me and trying to learn more about the all the forecast dynamics that go into these events, I suggest checking out Convective Chronicles on YouTube. There are usually detailed forecast discussions and there also case studies of past events that look at the soundings and how they played into the event.

In one night the Mississippi River main channel in Winfield almost completely froze over, even with all that wind. Only ice before that was in some backwater side channels. I have never witnessed it freeze that fast, especially below the dam.

We are supposed to see Home Alone performed by the symphony on Thursday evening. That is not looking good. I would not mind seeing this thing start about 10 to 12 hours later than it is currently showing. We also have tickets. Deciding if we try to sell them or hope they cancel the show and receive a voucher.

My sump pump decided it had enough this morning and died. My MIL lives in our basement so 2/3 is finished. We caught the issue quickly and was able to get a spare utility pump going and use wet vacs and push brooms to move water faster to the floor drains. Got Serve Pro coming this evening with dehumidifiers. Some trim damage, kick plates in kitchen swelled a little and damage to a few IKEA shelves. Soaked a big area rug and carpet at bottom of stairs is toast. Water was crystal clear so no staining. Hopefully we can get it dried out and prevent mold behind the drywall.

Safe to expect quite a bit of shower/thunderstorm coverage tomorrow in the northern viewing area and NW of there? Trying to gauge if it’s even worth hooking up the boat and heading to Mark Twain Lake.
