Welp the jury is still out on de Fuego, their institute of volcanology says that it might not be done. The eruption may be over, but there might be further ones. And I'd like to say that THIS weather can also repeat itself as much as it wants. It's literally lovely outside right now.

Looks like a potentially stormy pattern as we head into the weekend and early next week. Pretty classic MCS conveyor setup.

The climatology for the place I'm going up in Massachusetts looks awesome. By July obviously the ocean waters warming up a bit. Average lows are in the mid-60s and average Highs are in the low 80s. This week they're barely touching 70 all week.

Don't let the temps fool you, I went there in the summer, it was hot, the sand was burning my feet, and the ocean was ice cold. Nevertheless it was beautiful. Take a day trip to Newport and look at the mansions.

Looking online I wouldn't expect the ocean temperature to be much more than 70 degrees when we get there. I know that's going to be cool. We were in Aruba and the ocean temperature was 81-82 it felt cool

We got enough of a break in the weather and our driveway is poured. They still have to do some work to get it to match the other driveways in subdivision. But, thankfully, there were no deluges.

Continuing to look like a fairly active pattern as we head into the weekend with several rounds of thunderstorms possible. Also, GFS spins up another tropical system mid next week.

Alright...anyone have the low down on the very loud sound reported at approximately 12:10p along the MO/AR border today. The NWS Springfield FB page has 590 comments of people reporting it with that number growing rapidly as I type. The sound may have been heard as far north as Rolla. NWS Springfield is investigating the cause with a meteor exploding in the atmosphere being a possibility they are considering.

I just asked a family member who is currently in Branson about it and they didn’t hear anything.

Probably someone shooting tanerite. There is a guy in my area that has not not allowed to shot it anymore. They have had many manhours and monies spent the first couple time he did it.

I've seen reports of it being heard from Rolla down to Mountain Home, AR which is over 100 miles apart. I have a really hard time believing tannerite exploding can be heard over 50 miles away in each direction.

The atmosphere was dry adiabatic pretty high up without any inversions so I doubt the sound was surface based. My suspicious is that it was probably a sonic boom from an aircraft of some sort although that's still a pretty long way for the sound to travel. It still seems like the most plausible theory. Interesting factoid...Krakotoa is considered to be the loudest sound ever heard being plainly audible from 3000 miles away.

Yes, I know technically it's just lightning from a distant storm. But how far can “heat“ lightning be seen? It's about 1145 pm and I could swear I've seen 2 flashes of lightning a couple of minutes apart. The nearest lightning, according to radarscope, is up near the MO/IA border. Can lightning be seen that fa?

I guess the chances of rain this weekend are looking slighter now. Still a chance but not as much as before. I don't like that trend at all.

Hard to figure out what the magic trigger will be. I am leaving in a chance for storms for Sat Sun and Mon...but emphasizing they are tough to time and much of the weekend will be dry.
