Pretty significant training in the area. Seeing reports 1-2" possibly + in SW portions St Francois County down into iron and Reynolds counties

I have no idea why the NWS went with "Areal Flood Warning" vs a "Flash Flood Warning" I have yet to find anywhere that the warning is actually showing up...except the NWS page. As a result... nobody is getting the message. 1-3" of rain in that area between Farmington and Iron Mountain Lake in the short time that it fell could have deadly consequences.

Heard thunder about 10 minutes again inside of the house, cells nowhere near me. Yup. I was out on my deck and the first few flashes were not far from me at all...but no rain in site...and non on radar...until you looked up to level 4! The lightning was the first sign the storm was about to blow.

Slept in today though I did check out the radar around 0700. Looks concerning for flooding again down here.

It has cooled off a ton here. In the mid 70s. Lots of rain around me and not a single drop here. Though it is thundering.

Got caught outside in the quicker storm about 8:30 this morning at Bayer's Garden in Imperial. Those tiny hail stung. Drowned rat. This one over Arnold the past about 45 min or so was torrential. I have about 1.5" in one of the empty flower pots in the yard that I hadn't gotten planted yet this morning.

Got lots of wind and thunder to the east. But so far just a quick shower about 1030. Radar looks to be back building some. Much of the city looks to be getting deluged.

Now it gets really interesting to see how this new composite boundary left from today's first round of storms will impact this evening and tonight. Obviously there isn't a model on the planet that will handle it well.

Needless to say... even the convection allowing models left a lot to be desired this morning. The HRRR came closest from what I can tell... but even its version of close is generous...up until the last 2 or 3 runs...when it has finally caught on to what is happening.

My concern for late this afternoon into tonight is that a new complex will develop somewhere in northern MO southern IA near the intersection of the outflow boundary that is pressing west/northwest...and the old front across Iowa...in an area that is teeming with instability. I suspect they will move southeast along the edge of the instability gradient right back into the region...and we could be in for some intense rainfall and strong/severe storms overnight.

HRRR thinks it will provide a focus for initiation northwest of STL this afternoon. You can definitely see the outflow boundary racing off to the northwest on the radar.

Just changed the brake pads. Fairly easy. I realized as I was doing it that I had not done that kind of work in possibly a decade. Probably the last time. So it goes. Time marches on.
