Tonight is a good opportunity to view the International Space Station flyover. It will begin at 9:00pm and approach from the northwest to north and fly almost directly overhead.

Every time I read one of these they use figures that are within reach naturally. All this sea level stuff is all what happened prior to last ice age. Of course it can go that high

Did I hear correctly in business news? That the sale of Tribune stations to Sinclair is off?

Anything interesting in the models coming up for the St. Louis Area? Cool shots that will get us in the mood for Fall?

Anything interesting in the models coming up for the St. Louis Area? Cool shots that will get us in the mood for Fall? Roughly mid next week both the 12z GFS & ECM are showing a closed upper level low opening up as it moves through the area with associated showers and storms. Precipitable water values are actually forecast to be quite high during the period I might add. Where, when, and if this leads to good rain are still up in the air, but there is some potential, even if slight this far out, for a widespread moderate rain type of event. Or if nothing else, maybe some cloudy mild weather.

Lotta of smoke over the North American continent per the GOES-16 satellite imagery. Most of Earth's atmosphere is quite foggy/dirty looking for that matter Probably the 'dirtiest' I've ever seen. Wonder what implications if any that will have?

I've noticed it looked a little smokey as I've been driving along going east on Route 14. I noticed it between Benton and McLeansboro. I'm saw it again just east of McLeansboro

Wonder what implications if any that will have? look at that pocket over the ozarks is that smoke or humidity? It's smoke. What's happening is the smoke is coming around the western ridge in a clockwise fashion from the north and entering the Great Plains and Midwest. Some model runs are forecasting these aerosol particles (ie. smoke) to converge along the leading edge of a mid level shortwave tomorrow. HRRR-smoke has the highest density of smoke near KC tomorrow. I'm not sure how high the densities get before it becomes noticeable though. By the way, we stopped by your store last weekend to pick up some of the fresh shrimp you had. They were tasty.

Few showers start to pop to the southwest of the city. It be nice to get something more substantial than that.

Sunlight appears a little filtered today. It reminds me of three years ago when the wildfire smoke caused the light to look orange for a couple days in the summer, just not to that degree.

Yep, smokey again today. A bit thicker then yesterday. Luckily this smoke is well aloft otherwise air quality issues would be substantial.

Here is the current smoke analysis from the HRRR at 1pm today. But, I really don't think the HRRR is accurately depicting the densities in our area. GOES 16 is still showing a pretty obvious ribbon to the west and south of the metro area. The particles are also showing up pretty well on radar as well. KSTL, TSTL, and MZZU all showing the highest densities around 12,000 ft.

Sun really dimmed by the smoke aloft. Looks like it's more closer to 7:30 to 7:45 PM then 6:45. Almost don't need sunglasses... Almost.
