The milky white smoke haze is so thick right now to my west and south that it actually looks like thin wispy clouds. This should reduce the perceived brightness of Venus and Mars tonight for many observers around the metro area.

Area of thickest smoke almost lines up perfectly with the path of the Total Solar Eclipse in MO/IL last year. Kind of interesting.

And pretty much shoots down chances of any good viewing of the Perseid's Meteor Shower tonight which happens to be the peak night.

Mid level winds are rather stagnant around here until tomorrow night so the smoke might hang around through tomorrow

So what kind of rain/storms we looking at this week?
I think severe threat is fairly minimal at this point, but there should definitely be some thunder around. Overall I like our rain chances and many spots around the area may see halfway decent totals by Thursday morning...at least 1"+. Also worth noting that WPC is going with a slight risk of excessive rain on Wednesday.

Fairly active pattern coming up it looks like. Middle of this week then maybe through the weekend as well.

The rain in southwest MO will surely be here before tomorrow am, right?

The DAM will do hard work today...holding much of the rain off...and limiting what does make it this far north to a few spot showers.
More interested in development of potential training late tonight and tomorrow...near or just southeast of I.44. Several inches of rain will be possible from STL metro to the southwest along I.44.

Southwest is better than southeast of 44! We don’t need several inches of training rain!

Upstream morning soundings associated with the weather system to our southwest at Topeka, Springfield, and Little Rock are supportive of efficient rain production. Each, more or less, measured 2" PW, with tall thin CAPE profiles and high freezing level. So when the showers and storms pick up overnight and tomorrow the rain may add up surprisingly quickly.

GFS is still holding on to a pretty stout cool front early next week that would give us lows in the lower 50's. It'll likely moderate some but it has been pretty well dead on with this pattern most of the summer.

Yep see Shelf Cloud. Although this one is rather ragged and ominous looking Fox2now on FB had that pic a couple of days ago. One of the comments on the pic reads as follows "Those aren't clouds. What you are seeing in this picture is the physical embodiment of the overwhelming sense of oppression and government intrusion a person feels each time they enter Illinois." I laughed out loud at this. Brutal but funny.

Pretty pathetic rain showers today. Really thought we'd get more. Hope that changes tonight and tomorrow.

Big 'ol slug of water coming up south of I-44. Drove through some of the smaller lead cells on my way to work and it was extremely heavy. May see some brief flash flooding over the next few hours.

Chris definitely nailed it with his "along 44" forecast. We've had a little rain in St. Peters. But looking at the radar and the Road Runner cam with water standing on the road some areas some areas are getting ample amounts of rain. Meanwhile the rain has stopped here and there are some very bright breaks in the clouds - even saw a peek of blue sky a minute ago.
The St. Peters jinx rolls on.
