I’ve decided there is no spring or fall here, just summer and winter!

The official death toll from Hurricane Maria jumped from 64 to 2975 today. That makes Maria far deadlier than Katrina.

The response to Puert Rico was a joke, so many died after the storm. These were americans that were killed. Sad.

GOES-17 imagery is available on the Colorado State RAMMB Slider site: rammb-slider.cira.colostate.eduMy understanding is that around equinoxes when the satellite receives more solar radiation 10 of the 16 channels will be functional all day, but the other 6 will have some drop outs due to heat issues. Around solstices 13 of the 16 channels will be functional all day, with the 3 remaining channels having partial drop outs. I think I read that basic visible, IR, and water vapor were mostly unaffected. While this satellite will eventually provide A LOT of [upstream] observations for weather models it was also my understanding that these drop outs shouldn't have a significant impact on NWP skill.

Too bad Dave couldn't make the long range Winter forecast the last one, that is the one everyone enjoys the most. Gonna miss them every season.

Ya, but what's your thoughts on July, 2020? Hot, humid, chance of rain. I think that about covers it.

Reb, at least in the whatever winter we get, the chiggers and horseflies and wasps are gone! Also H&H! It's a break from those!

According to Dave Fall forecast looks boring until Nov. Lol Was it filled with lots of warmth through turkey time? I ended up missing it.
Course Autumn is usually boring, dry, and warm in St. Louis least overall in the past 15 years I've lived here minus a few notable exceptions.

Looks like that squall line might just make it through after all. Nice lightning to the north and decent band sagging southeastward might make it through the metro with in a hour and last until about 7 to 8 am.

Much more storm coverage this morning than expected and predicted by the models. Strangely heaviest rain moving into Union now. Good to see that this time of year.

Neat look on radar as you can see the outflow boundary moving south through the rain shield. Nice shelf cloud earlier this morning approaching Festus.

Good soaking rain - YAY!
Too much soaking rain in Wisconsin. Many highways closed by flooding, including interstates. Hope no one was planning on going that direction for the last weekend of summer.

Seems like a flash flooding situation is developing down near Rolla with significant backbuilding ocurring.
Edit - Just saw that there's a FFW in place down that way...

1.1 today according to the Davis on the roof. Progress (albeit slow) made on a very dry area! I am grateful.
