Measured 11.25" yesterday. Due to compaction and melting though making it hard to measure, I am going to say I got 12" in northern Wildwood!

My husband had measured 15"-15 1/2" here in BG yesterday evening around 6pm. When he measured again this morning, it was slightly under that...I'm guessing due to compaction. However, there was a new inch or so more in an area that he'd cleared away last night, so I feel I could tentatively go with a 16" total for us. I've seen a few locals in town on FB claiming 17" or 18" but I'd say they're really pushing it, or perhaps just don't understand how to measure correctly. Some of the photos I saw posted showed measurements taken right near a drift, etc.

Wife and I went up to the city to do some grocery shopping today. Jealous...you guys got slammed. I have like an inch left in Perryville due to all the rain and 35 degrees. At least where I work there's still at least 6 inches on the ground lol. Oh well, it was a fun, strange system.
Icon starts spinning a big one together Saturday but keeps moving east. It's coming around though. All bets on the Euro until further notice as far as I'm concerned.

schreib, did you ruffle any feathers today? .....lol My wife thinks they may be heated sidewalks/walkways On one of Timmer's videos, it looked like a little Kubota with a snowblower on the front going around. But that might have been on a side street and not on the arch grounds.

If this topic has already been covered, forgive me, but has there been any thought given to moving this forums, community to a closed group on Facebook? It would be nice to be able to easily post pictures, potential Chris “Facebook lives”, can still control membership, and could get notifications when new posts are added to the group. Chris, you can still control who can see and post, and you can give people moderator/administrators rights within the group on Facebook. I wouldn’t mind seeing certain others post video forecast too!
Anyone else have thoughts on this.

Sounds like another opportunity for MODOT to shine... I honestly cannot think of anything Modot could do to avoid what happened friday. Once the snow started to fall with roads jammed with traffic...the gig was up. They cant just plow through cars lined up on the streets. Snow during rush hour...especially fast accumulating snow is undefeatable in my opinion....except for commuters to stay off the roads in sufficient numbers as to allow modot to clear them.

I regularly get birds flying pretty low over the house, though, and the thought has definitely crossed my mind. Yesterday was one of those days.

Did you guys hear 16" of snow fell in Florida? Florida, MO... Some crazy totals with this storm! This ranks with 2006 and the Groundhog Day storm...both 15"+ in spots...and of course the Palm Sunday storm. Yup...all monsters...but different Dynaimcally... this storm was nothing like Palm Sunday... but in terms of amounts and types of snow...it was exactly like the Palm Sunday storm. This was one of the strangest events I have ever seen.

Fully agree. My goal was to be off the roads by 3. It came down HARD at the onset. 1pm went from dry to slush to snow covered by 2.

It's hard to say what the final total was my house. I measured two times last time I measured was Sat around 11am. Almost 11'. So I'm going with 12". Because I know it snowed more the rest of Sat. Then woke up Sun. So it could easily been more then that.

Sometimes, I think people believe that pre-treating is some sort of magic. It can slow down icing in small events and help plowing be more effective in larger ones. However, when we get hit with 1 to 2 inches per hour right off the bat with a lot of traffic accelerating melting and refreezing, it doesn't make a difference.

Road crews can't keep up with 1-2"/hr snow rates with no traffic...let alone rush hour. There's absolutely no basis for blame on road crews in that worst case scenario.

Still a near blizzard on the GFS this weekend
It’s p-type charts aren’t printing out any ice but I feel like there would be some between the rain/snow line

Sounds like I am in the minority regarding MODOT. I don't know maybe I was crabby from a brutal travel schedule and rushing to get out of Pittsburgh on Friday. I landed at Lambert at 1pm and it was hardly snowing. BY 2PM I was dead in the water. It seemed odd with the tmperature barely below freezing. Eventually, took the backroads and after 3-4 failed routes made it home by 6. Luckier than most for sure, but exhausted. Didn't seem like there was any pretreatment, but I don't know. Employers letting everyone go at the same time certainly adds to the problem and absolutely impossible to clear when cars stack up. I told our staff to leave when they felt it was appropiate. CEO wasn't happy, but I explained we have so few big snow threats that it makes no sense to but anyone in danger. It is not like they are going to get any work done if they are stressed about winter weather. He came around.
Usually, I have trouble with two treacherous turns by my house, but honestly the roads were in much better shape in the boonies and that is usually not the case.

Gfs and gem both have it. Good storm for us. Euro was much slower in progression of the system and had it dig more. I gotta believe that will be the end result. Hope it doesn't pull north. This is one strong shot of arctic air though that should keep that from happening.

Couple questions for those in the know. 1. What does beet juice do as a pre treat? 2. When did they start using it? 3. How did they discover it?
Also, went out this afternoon and dug my blind out of the snow. Didn't look like the deer have been moving much since the snow started the other day, and weren't moving tonight. I'm done with the deer for this season. Saw a lot of deer this year, and several nice bucks. My deer for next year showed up on one of my cams this week. Next year he should be huge!

It depresses the freezing point of water even more than salt does. Sugar depresses the freezing point of water, it's just a question of producing such a solution cheaply. Beet processing byproducts was a good way to do it and was an effective response to environmental concerns (NPDES) related to road salt in the early 2000's. Any use of beets that reduce their use as food is OK by me. Yuck.

I've got about a 160 class beautiful 13 pointer in my area. Seems to be a home range buck. Will be a monster next year! I took my doe during rifle season and was very happy with that. Let lots of young nice bucks go do their thing.

With the rain and temps above freezing you really had to be on top of things yesterday to get an accurate measurement.

Wow! That map shows I got over a foot! It did look like a lot but I never got a measurement. I was thinking closer to 9" but that's just a guess based of Elkay's data. Is there an official report for Waterloo? I wanna know so I can update my seasonal total.

So Angela H just said there was a 17” report of snow in Washington, MO. I’ve measured there and a lot the past couple of days from New Haven to Gray Summit and have not found a total over 13.5”. And that 12” line only is about 5 miles to the south of the Missouri River. Would anybody have the location this was measured at by chance?

Why do the reported measurements on the right side have Union at 10.5" but the map has them at 9.5"?

Early on Friday like 6am when it was posted that the storm was coming in sooner by around Noon. Why wasn't MODOT in full mode earlier. They should of been speading salt sooner and having the trucks ready. So IMO they failed..also I blame companies that were not on top of it letting people leave sooner than later after 2pm when everyone was on roads by then. Do you remember last couple of years when Modot failed and then their reponce was to make sure the pavement had more white salt than the snow that fell..it was kind of like we can't miss this again.

I wonder who reported 12" near Belleville. Find that hard to believe. And in case anyone is wondering all of the snow will be melted by this weekend. At least in the local metro. Like North facing shaded areas might not completely melt but the snow is toast otherwise.
