Euro has alot of energy and moisture interacting with a tight temperature gradient in the middle of the country late next week. Multiple waves of rain/ice/snow
To give you an idea, Wednesday highs would be near 70
Then Thursday we struggle to reach 20 with ice and snow impacting the area

Not sure why the NWS is not mentioning any freezing drizzle tonight...strong WAA at 850 over arctic air that is saturated just off the surface...with a loss of cloud ice. Seems like a recipe for freezing drizzle to me...hence I continue to carry it in my forecast.

This is from the disco...they mention the possibility but not topo enthused ..saying no icing is interesting since the ground is so damn cold. Weird.
This will usher in increasing low level moisture and WAA, so some concern that as this warmer air flows over the frozen ground, stratus as well as light precipitation will develop after 06z Friday. With little or no ice crystals aloft and warming wet bulb temps aloft, could see some light freezing rain, drizzle and/or sleet mixed in at times, before changing to all light rain as surface temperatures warm up well above freezing. Little or no icing is expected. The precipitation will move out of the forecast area by mid morning on Friday.

Looking at their various point forecast, they seem more enthusiastic about light precipitation on the Illinois side.

My kids’ school is closed. Again. Why? lots of bad side roads, parking lots, etc. Chemicals just are not cutting through the thin skiff of snow on the ground...and what melted when cars drove over it last night has now refrozen. Lots of black ice.

I long for the 1980s. We just went. Period. in the 1980s, politicians hadn't enforced ridiculous mandatory attendance policies on districts in the name of "school accountability." Google the 90/90 requirement for MSIP 5 in Missouri, there's your answer. Plus, they'll still go the same number of days when it gets put on the backend.

Different world now. Safety first. I long for the 1980s. We just went. Period. More like “avoid lawsuits”. Safety first is a byproduct. There are several schools open, one of which is 1 mile from my kids’ school. I understand why they are closed. But I do think it’s ridiculous that they waited till 5:20 to make the announcement. Roads and parking lots were not going to improve miraculously overnight. Luckily mine and my wife’s jobs are flexible and we can work from anywhere, but not everyone has that luxury. But working from home with 3 kids does present some challenges.

safety/lawsuits are a distant second. I've had it confirmed by a couple of people at a much higher pay grade than my own that its very much about the expected attendance numbers. Under modern rules and guidelines from the state, even a single day of horrid attendance can be catastrophic. Something, something, "unintended consequences of government actions".

My kids’ school is closed. Again. Why? Rockwood closed due to a combo of slick side streets and the fact that they couldn't get sidewalks and parking lots ready.

Measured 0.7 at the higgins weather palace before leaving for work. Sadly, our hot water heater went out yesterday.... thank goodness we have a shower here at work...but it messed with my morning mojo all morning getting out of my routine.

I long for the 1980s. We just went. Period. In the 80s you could ride rear facing in a jump seat of a station wagon without a seatbelt. I wouldn’t attribute everything to the lawsuit happy “not my fault” current climate.

We need snow for several years so people learn how to drive in it.
Roads are mostly OK, but there are slick spots. Westbound 40/64 at Clayton is one of them.

I had no trouble on 64/270... but the on/off ramps and flyover ramp especially from 64 to 270 were VERY slick. You hit those at traffic speed you are in trouble. I was doing 25 and still could feel the slipping.

We shall see. I'm going dry Thursday for now...and just advertising cold. I tossed the Euro 70 degree day Wednesday too. I don't doubt an over-running event developing...but think it may wait a bit longer and just want to have a better sense of timing before I introduce it...especially with some much going on between now and then. I'm also certain it will happen Friday into Saturday because I'm heading back to Cincinnati for another basketball game
