According to KFVS in addition to the one in Dexter there was a train derailment in Sparta, IL caused by excessively soft ground from all the rain.

From the North Dakota Dept of Transportation. They've had blizzard warnings up. Now they've pulled the plows for all except metro Fargo. This picture is I-94 west of Fargo

Curious question here, which model available for free offers the longest range temperatures? Gfs only goes out to 17 days, anything go out to a month? I understand the accuracy will drop significantly.

Im seeing an ever subtle trend and a pattern that may be more conducive for snow next week. I think we cld be in business. Perhaps that se ridge might be flattening out. Im anticipating southern trends both in the early week and late week systems. Gfs verbatim has accumulating now in kirksville but with surface high parked immediately to the north, i suspect a more southward placement of the rain snow line than what the 18 gfs depicts according to the thickness values. If i see this trend continue through tomorrow, on the models, then we may have some watchers or at least a watcher and/or a system of interest.

My daughter drove through a travel not recommended blizzard in the Dakotas to come home for a visit from minot one january. Quite frankly am surprised her commanding officer allowed it. They keep a tight leash. She was to surprise the family but i was up all night texting her as she drove. Oh that was a nailbiter but she made it. She said she was the only one on the road but she was determined to make it even had some rough patches where she wasnt sure if she was on the road.

Think an STL advisory level storm is a couple standard deviations along the distribution at this time.

Sunday morning continues to look like just enough to cause some problems on the roadways, but given the day it shouldn't be a huge issue.
GFS has a good looking system late next week but it is all alone so don't get your hopes up.
