Have to say I'm loosing interest quickly with this stretch that was looking so promising. This winter has been far from epic IMBY. Agreed.

I am up to 29* temp. Radar cut off line very sharp and 15-20 miles sw of me then it tails up to the west of me. I bet that finger of moisture sw of me will be 50-60 miles east of me before anything is falling here. Just an observation. Not griping by any means.

Debating epic is silly. I believe we had the same discussion of these terms a few years ago too. It is a term that i would not describe any aspect of this winter or any single event this winter. It might be a reflection of the experience of some of our younger members, so i also try to stay away from terms like that unless theres a statistic to back it up. Thats just me of course. Getting back to weather though how bout those Cards this year. đ

Went almost 6 weeks without putting out any chemicals. I believe that. There were some really long stretches of nonwinter, as well as some early winter. It all averages out. We shld not have to rely on stratospheric warming for a winter pattern.

I donât know. I canât see much SE movement on the radar. The low appears to be in the NW corner of Kansas right now with possibly another approaching Wichita. But, Iâm an amateur amateur, so take my observations with a grain of salt.

A 20 inch snow is historic for those who live in that region. Not in st louis or st charles though.

Epic around here is an 18-24" snowfall, 1"+ of glaze ice, -20*F air temp, or 50"+ seasonal snowfall.

Any thoughts on the Tuesday system? Models are showing 6" or so potential nearby by Thursday, but I am not sure how much of that would be from today/tomorrow. Looks messy. If it happens a wintry mix seems likely Messy in terms of system organization or impact?

Iâve had 18â for the season, which while nice, is far from epic
Maybe it just feels epic because the last few winters were so horrible

Argh... the flu is tearing this station apart. Jaime called in sick so I'm stuck working the 11am and Noon shows too. I see nothing yet that would make me overturn my current forecast...steady as she goes. I'm sticking to what I have. Donut hole is slowly eroding over STL and MZZU radar sites...all I need is enough roads to make roads slick and I'll be happy with this one...lol. But 1" along I-70 would verify and I can go to bed.

IRT the winter season as whole, I was afraid the âPolar Vortexâ was going to be the kiss of death. Teleconnections and modeling gave me some hope though. Those things have a tendency to shake up the going trends and patterns and it seemingly takes the atmosphere and sensible pattern weeks to adjust back to normal. That normal almost never favors us. Meanwhile, the northern Midwest is seeing âthe most snow in years.â
A testament to the lack of cold is the current Great Lakes ice coverage. Lakes Michigan, Ontario, and Huron are mostly open. Superior is only about 60%, and Erie is mostly frozen over.

What makes this season strange to me is that despite the 21 inches I've had at my house...it hasn't felt that bad. Yes we had the brutal cold....but the snow has been spaced out going back to November...so it has come in intervals. So it hasn't felt like a lot of snow. What stands out more to me has been the cloudiness. Just lots of days of clouds and cool weather.

Who gives a damn what word we use. The vast majority of us have had several nice systems this year and most sit near 20". It has been so much better than the last 3 years of crap so just enjoy what fun we have had this year. Think of it this way...if someone had told you last fall that we would get what we've gotten this year, would you be arguing about whether or not it would be "epic, historic, etc." or would you just say man that sounds pretty awesome I can't wait until it happens? It has been an above average year for all of us and we should be grateful. End.

Looks messy. If it happens a wintry mix seems likely Messy in terms of system organization or impact? Both. If the storm canât get negatively tilted, then WAA will probably kick the event over to rain by the end. Itâs unlikely to be more than advisory level if if the storm even happens.

After some mild winters I'd say this winter feels just a bit above average. Plus any snows we've had go away quickly. The cloudiness is most notable.

It looks like the best chance to see a breakthrough will be just South of i70 between 12-3pm.
It will probably break through up to 70 for at least a heavy dusting today.

Looks like this storm (or serious lack thereof) has made for some grumpy people. I would agree with Chris in that we had a couple of really nice snow storms but nothing really lasted on the ground for any long periods of time. It has been cloudy, cool to cold and our "deep freeze" lasted a day and a half. The November storm was a top 5 storm for many in the metro but other than that, it has been a bit blah overall. But, it has been better than the last couple so let's be good with that.

I get off work at 1PM... driving from downtown to Mascoutah... I am certain that most of the rest of the city will be doing the same thing, headed home (not all to Mascoutah)... will be a great show to watch people panic as it starts to snow. I am NOT looking forward to that...
