I'm rooting for Chris' 1/2 inch total for 2 days forecast from this morning (sorry, I'm still rained-out from the past half-year)

Hard to believe but the yard has large areas of brown grass showing up. Lots of evaporation this time of year when the sun is out. The good news is this rain the next couple of days will make the humidity absolutely orgasmic later this week and weekend.

The surface has certainly dried out but there's still decent moisture a few inches down. With that being said, this is the perfect kind of rain for mid-July for crops...steady and soaking.

its definitely not over impressive so far here. A few moments of heavier rain, but mostly pretty light but steady.

So far here a slow steady rain. Good for soaking in rather than running off.

Thinking Lambert makes a run at 100 before the weekend is over. My pick right now would be Thursday with GFS showing morning 850mb temps at 24C, winds off the plateau and full sun throughout the day.

The worst of both worlds...rainfall coming in higher, then the heat with temps aoa 100.

Just been a steady drizzle all morning long here in Lebanon, MO. Nothing very heavy, just more of a nuisance. The worst part is I'm going to have to pack up wet camping gear and dry it all out when I get home later this week. At least the sun and high temps later in the week will speed the process!

Do we still think we see more rain overnight and tomorrow?

Spotty showers and drizzle overnight...but nothing substantial. Tomorrow will be more of a spot downpour day with breaks in the overcast resulting in warmer temps...and hence some pockets of instability.

Any break in the heat at all next week? Even lower humidity would be a good thing.

Any break in the heat at all next week? Even lower humidity would be a good thing. Gfs has been consistent with a pretty strong cook front in Monday. In fact, the 18z run moves that up to Sunday. So this may be a relatively short heat wave.

It's obvious that most models overestimated rainfall amounts with this system...pretty unimpressive as tropical rainstorms go. But a rainy day in the 70s aren't too common in July so it's a nice change of pace and we certainly didn't need several inches of rain, either.

So this may be a relatively short heat wave. Models are showing the "ring of fire" setup that Coz alluded to earlier as we head into next week with the upper ridge retrograding back towards the Rockies putting us in the NW flow aloft. But before then, 95*+ temps look likely Thursday and beyond.

felt compelled to weigh in on the duration of the impending heat wave....we've seen this over and over....it's always slower to break than models depict. I personally would not buy into the models breaking the heat wave so quickly just yet. Of course, this year could be different, but I'm having trouble believing a sustained break from the heat will materialize. We likely will see some delay, or if anything, a day or two of less humidity, but temperatures still aoa, followed by a quick return to more heat/humidity. Not believing the models at this juncture; but a few more runs consistent, then I could be convinced of a quick hit of some relief.

Good news is, it’s July 15th and we haven’t had a prolonged heat wave yet. Each day without it gets us closer to the cool breeze of fall at this point.
