I slept through the "big" one (at SEMO) back in 90-91, or whenever that was.

The one along the IL/IN border on 4/18/2008 woke me up. I then woke up my wife, who had slept through it, and told her I thought an earthquake just happened and she said, "No it didn't. Go back to sleep!"

The average temperature in STL for September was 77.8. This breaks the old record of 77.4 set back in 1897.

The NWS is forecasting 96F at the airport today. That will shatter the record for the day. Even if temperatures under-perform like they did yesterday we should still easily break the record.

Go back to sleep!" That was by far the strongest I’ve ever felt. Jars on top of the refrigerator actually fell off and I remember the eerie rumbling sound. Funny thing is, I just happened to be awake and using the bathroom. Which was weird because I never did that.

What do you think is causing the level off even with full sun. Is it basically the hottest it can get for thos time of year type of thing

That, I'm not too sure about. Could be the lower sun angle, could just be the fact it can only get so hot in October.

What do you think is causing the level off even with full sun. Is it basically the hottest it can get for thos time of year type of thing More than likely it is the mixing. We have likely mixed very high into the layer aloft and that is resulting in a steady state...we have reached max potential warming based on temps aloft. Now we need less mixing down of the "cooler" air aloft. That's why I held at 93. We need the air to bake some more and get more superadiabatic!

Lower sun angle/insolation definitely plays a role as well...which is equivalent to mid-March. It can only get so warm with that amount of sun energy.

Oddly enough spirit has reached 93 but they have a Southwest wind as opposed to these West wind reported at Lambert. The difference in wind direction although not huge may also be playing a role.

Looks like the first true autumn cold front could be pushing through Sun/Mon...strong NW flow shortwave with ~552dm thickness forecast in it's wake which would suggest lows in the 40s and highs in the 60s. Thursday will be a nice preview!
