Hey guys,
As I mentioned earlier today in the last thread I am going offline (mostly) for a couple of weeks. But before I leave I thought this would make a great topic for a new thread to energize some fresh discussion while the weather settles down for a while. Kevin Deitsch, the new Warning Coordination Meteorologist at NWS St. Louis posted this link on twitter and I think this group is uniquely qualified to weigh-in because of the variety of backgrounds and overall interest and knowledge of weather. The National Weather Service is taking comments on a proposed plan to do a massive overhaul of the Watch, Warning, Advisory (WWA) system. This overhaul includes to elimination of "Advisories" along with some other changes. His tweet is below. Follow the link to read up about the proposal and take the survey. Your responses will help guide the NWS as they chart a new way forward!

This cutoff low can stick around all summer if it wants.

Low humidity has been incredible. I can deal with 3-5 hours of strong heat in the day with DPs in the 50s and the amazing mornings and nights.
Yard is very thirsty though. Dry air and no rain for 3 weeks doesn’t help.

Idc about no rain right now. I can water. It’s just nice to not have a swamp and to actually be able to enjoy the river.

Farmers could really use rain right now. Give me the heat and humidity in the summer - mid-50 dews do not bring much needed moisture.

I seem to be watering constantly and it’s still not enough in the front were it’s full sun all day every day

Things look to get more active starting this weekend and possibly through next week. I'm not a fan of the dry stuff.

Amazing how quickly the wet pattern reversed itself locally...micro-drought conditions are setting in with cracking ground and small pond levels starting to drop.
Thanks for the birthday wishes!

Nice 'micro' drought over the metro-east almost centered on it into most of southern Illinois. Probably going to see a D0 issued for the next drought monitor (abnormally dry) if we get no rain between now and Thursday which seems quite likely.

I hope we start getting some rain soon. Our hottest summers have been with low humidity. And drought feeds drought.

The cracks in my yard are about 3/4 of an inch wide. It doesntbhelp that I have many bald spots due to my dogs. There are many cracks just like these under the grass too.

GFS continues to indicate that the NW flow will keep us from scorching anytime in the foreseeable future. Also still showing good precip chances starting this weekend. We are at the time of the year where I'm thankful for any day that isn't miserably hot. Typically though when we see this in June and early July, it flips to furnace mode for Mid July through early Sep.

Have to wonder about severe weather chances

This weekend into next week is looking fairly active and eventually cooler with the NW flow building in thanks to a developing REX block across central Canada...good news for the farmers with the late planted crop still being in it's early stages.

A good soaking rain would be nice, but we don't need 3 to 4 inches at a time. Ok.. I'm at Tablerock lake for a few days. Daytime Temps are in the low to mid 80's. Back there, Temps are pushing the 90s. Its further south and west here, so I'd expect warmer temperatures, yet they are cooler. What causes that?

Rain chances begin to increase late tonight and into the weekend. Definitely looks like some heavy rain/thunderstorms are likely Sunday night through Monday.
