If we can just keep that moisture out west from dissipating we might get a little surprise..... radar is definitely better than what was modeled

RAP and HRRR look pretty ugly

Looks like the HRRR is not picking up near the amount of precip that is currently being depicted on radar in MO. The 2pm frame shows nothing near springfield...or mo.

Snowing hard in Branson as well by the look of it. Possible the low level moisture isn’t being picked up well as 920 said. This morning is a testament to that.

Light snow starting to pick back up here. Temp: 34. Were on a hill. I haven’t the slightest on whether elevation will play a factor on anything this evening.

It may be. I have regular drizzle here. I drove to union and back today and it’s amazing how clear some spots are and how white others are.

Last few frames on water vapor look like the mid level low is tightening up a bit and taking on negative tilt to our SW with a bit of "enhanced" moisture trying to wrap in from the Ozarks and AR. There should be just enough moisture to maintain a weak deformation zone and radar shows better saturation and deeper lift developing across the area currently. Guess we'll see how it goes...not looking like much for sure.

I noticed the same thing around here...some spots are iced up good while others have barely any. There's a big difference between open grassy areas and wooded valleys with surrounding fields...the snow melted off the grass and helped warm the surrounding trees while fields stayed snow covered and ice, snow and freezing fog coated the adjacent trees. There were some very beautiful sights today along back roads with the freezing fog...it would look great with the ground covered...fingers crossed!

I also noticed a lot of uprooted trees along creek bottoms where the soil was saturated and the ice was heavy in the branches. Doesn't take much wind to topple a tree like that.

Got up to 36*, back to 34*. After the very brief snow shower we had a few hours ago, it has been drizzle.

Solid snow burst coming down right now. Flake size is great.
Edit: Yep, couple min later & back to salt shaker stuff now.

Radar starting to show some showery precip bubbling to the south...that's a good sign.

Radar starting to show some showery precip bubbling to the south...that's a good sign. I was just getting ready to point out the band of precip in southern Jeffco. It is also coinciding with the cloud tops cooling on satellite WV right over us in general. Hopefully a very good sign of a possble pivot point anyway.

3/4mi vis with snow down near the AR/MO border S of SGF...the defo band down there looks decent and should lift through the metro and the NW 2/3rds at least and I suspect it's going to try to fill in across E/central MO ahead of it. Sometimes these storms will flare up a bit after sunset...hopefully that's the case.

I was looking at the output for the extended, GFS, GFS16, and euro....seems it's slipping into a pattern more consistent with an El Nino, rather than La Nina. If they verify, we could say a couple wasted lows. The term doubtful comes to my mind.

The deformation band out west looks way better than modeled. Maybe we can get a small surprise tonight if that translates east

If they verify, we could say a couple wasted lows. The term doubtful comes to my mind. I think this pattern is going to continue until the PV disruption event unfolds towards mid-month...then we'll see what effect it has on the large scale regime. The persistent, fast flow off the Pacific has pretty well ruined the pattern for the lower Midwest as it's consistently scoured out the polar airmasses at the wrong time and created short wavelength across NA that doesn't allow storms to mature...case in point...the current system. It's been a frustrating stretch for sure...hopefully the 2nd half of the winter makes up for it in spades!
