Man, gfs is back to showing that potential overriding situation mid to late next week...the ingredients are certainly there but it isn’t throwing it all together just yet. I’d bet it’s ejecting that SW energy too quickly. The shallow cold is very impressive.

We need more cold air for that to work out , there’s still lots of time but cold looks to be lacking for sure

Most guys are heading out tomorrow morning early for pre treatment Pretreatment IMO is useless this time. The only thing that may cause it to cover is the burst and when that subsides it’ll melt off. I have no intentions of leaving until Friday evening to treat as it winds down unless a client requests me there sooner

Yes , there’s probably a big difference in the sites we handle , zero tolerance medical/corporate commercial. Our clients do not want to see any snow on their lots. If we waited till snow covered our lots we would be in big trouble. We usually never take a wait and see approach and then try to mobilize 100 guys and do 100’s of lots you kind of need to be on top of the storm.

At least it will finally be getting cold enough to snow last few days of the month. Looks like majority of the area will see some single digits.

I don't think I'd be calling for single digits 2 weeks out. And if it is that cold, can almost guarantee no snow..Mississippi and Alabama on the other hand...

0Z HRRR lights up Illinois. 0-3 km CAPE is about as high as I've seen for snow squalls in our area.

Has LSX issued a Snow Squall Warning yet? I don't remember it happening last year. I could be wrong though. Anyway, I wouldn't be surprised to see some tomorrow if the CAMs are any indication.

What’s up with the kuchera ratios tomorrow? I noticed a big discrepancy between the kuchera map and 10:1 map and it’s because the hrrr has kuchera ratios of 3:1 around here tomorrow afternoon. That seems way too low considering the low level lapse rates and fronto forcing

The cpc has northern MO (along and north of 70) above normal precip and below normal temp. Rest of mo above normal precip and normal temp in their 8-14. Good combination for winter precip. Concern goes back to what chris said though....lack of real cold air in our source region. It may be a shallow cold situation.

The 00Z NAM doesn't put out a ton of QPF on Sunday.
But the vorticity and track is amazing.

A certain AM radio station with 50,000 watts keeps referring to us having a “Winter Advisory” tomorrow rather than a “Winter Weather Advisory.” It shouldn’t bother me, but it does.

It’s weird. Crystal clear skies here. Tons of stars. Radar shows snow within 5 miles of me. Must be like spring time showers. Neat.

Well the GEM is more bullish than GFS for next week. They both show potential! One thing that's becoming more clear is that the last week of Jan looks to feature the first true Arctic Blast of the season.
