Sun down... dropped to 33*. The most snow I've seen all winter. Picked up more in the last hour than the entire event Thursday/Friday.

Wasn't it supposed to rain today, or is that another day this week?

18z Hi res NAM brings the fgen band tomorrow right through the metro. If that's rain or another air snow I'm quitting That FGEN band has true potential tomorrow evening and overnight. It's the only other thing that we have to track the next 7-10 days out it seems. Let's hope the Fri-weekend system delivers, but I'm not going to hold my breathe as Btrn says.

Group poll: What’s worse, last year’s 31/32 degree “ice storms” or this year’s melting snowflakes? WORSE? 31/32 degree ice storms we had last year. I will take air snow, or melting snow any day over a cold rain. I hate rain when it's in the 30s. In fact, I hate rain when it's in the 20s too. I think that's an utter insult when that happens. In all circumstances when it's this cold, my order of preference of precipitation is snow, sleet, , , , , , , , , rain. I will take sunny and 32 over rain and 32 any day as well. By the way, I hate cold rain, and I hate rain ice. Not sure if that is clear. I once watched the temp climb from single digits to the 30s with rain in a matter of 4 hours one evening when I was in college. I was actually irritated, and I mean snowman irritated. That was when forecasts had a lot less accuracy and I just assumed the forecast was going to be a miss because they were calling for rain. They got it right.

and yes it became even more irritating watching the news the next day, showing people in the rest of MO digging out from a big snow storm...and yes, the final straw was when KFVS news anchor said to Don McNeely, "Looks like we dodged a bullet", followed by stupid laugh. Yep they teach that phrase at news anchor school. It's a precision art to deliver that phrase to offend the snow lovers.

I predict some good model runs in the near future focused on the Sunday-Tuesday timeframe (one week from now).
Some good ingredients out there and some good ensemble runs.
Some of the operational runs are running the energy into some good high pressure to the north. Also, this time there is decent high pressure in place the whole time instead of it sliding to the east quickly.
There should be some hope again in the next 48 hours

Enjoying the snow and the Cardinals at all of my feeders. It’s sticking to the grass at 33.1 * A gang of starlings have moved in on my feeder. They chase away the cardinals, finches chickadees and woodpeckers and generally make a mess of things. 'Bout to take the fight to them!

0z HRRR and 0z 3k NAM both shifted back north and east of the metro from earlier runs . These little bands are hard to predict . It’s sad when we’re grasping for an inch of snow.

Even though I don't do the feeder thing any more.

I can’t afford to keep my feeders filled. I fill all of mine (currently down to 5) and they are empty within 24 hours.

Well, it's snowed 3 days straight and there's nothing to show for it. Hopefully this evening's system brings an actual accumulating snow...

Tonight will be interesting. If it is 20 miles south of where it shows currently we may get another dusting in the metro. I dont expect much even in the advisory however as it will be near 40 to possibly 45 today to the south of the snow band and still near 40 befor the snow starts in the advisory area.

Would the forum member(s) interested in arrowheads please pm me? I need ID help. The Davis on the roof in North St. Pete noticed something in the snowless backyard yesterday.

The GFS is basically vacating all cold air in the medium and long range. I do believe it is time to move on from this "winter" unfortunately. It got me good this time - looked legit there for a couple days.

The GFS and GEM have zero cold air back to back cutters and rain maybe 5 hours of freezing rain at 30-32 on Sunday morning . The EPO is now forecast to sky rocket after a 2-4 day dip below. Unless the SSW can do something the next 2 weeks look beyond terrible. Most long models and weeklies are warmer than normal in February.

Tonight, I don’t see much of any accumulation, warm ground a d marginal air temp. I can’t believe they put out an advisory for that . They seem to be giving out advisory’s pretty graciously this year. We have had a lot in the viewing area for non accumulation or non icing.
