This is the kind of day that I think of when I think of winter doldrums. And we're not even to winter yet. Just knock 10-15 degrees off the temperature.

12z operational EC darn near has a full blown snowstorm middle of next week...but it's a fairly strong outlier with the depth of the cold air. Some snow flying at some point seems very possible though.

Is that blob in Central IL going to make it all the way to the metro? Have some outdoor plans, a little wet is fine, but not heavy & steady.

The number of states with almost 100% cloud cover (or let's say >70%) is impressive.

Remember the good Aurora viewing in the 90s? That was a strong Geomagnetic storm. I remember seeing that pretty good in Saint Charles County.

Looks like I bottomed out at 39* this morning. We still have not turned our heater on. It's the lowest temp in the house so far at 63*. That will likely end tonight. This house appears to be very well insulated.

Auroras kind of busted last night. the CME that was supposed to cause them missed Earth to the celestial south by just a hair, so only the Arctic Circle and points pole-ward got to see anything noteworthy. Maybe next time. Solar Cycle still very young.
