Anybody have a rough estimate on how many miles that quad state tornado has been on the ground ? Would have to go back and look. The storm was cycling back there around TN/KY border so not clear there was a tornado on the ground for the whole duration.

What a night. Looks like it was a good call by SPC bringing things further NW. That 1st storm was a doozy here. I was at work had to call people in their rooms and send them to basement. Don't know how strong the wind got but it was crazy. There is a pic of a possible tornado not too far from here..like a half mile to a mile. Not sure what to make of it. May e addictedtoweather can say more about it and post the pic.

This is wild stuff. From the most recent MD on the quad state tornado:
SUMMARY...Strong to intense tornado damage is expected to continue across portions of western Kentucky.
DISCUSSION...The long-track supercell, now entering Hopkins county, Kentucky, has now had a nearly continuous TDS for over 3 hours with an average vRot over 70 knots. The radar presentation and downstream environment does not show any sign of weakening this storm in the near term. In fact, recent observations ahead of this supercell have shown temperature increases of 2 to 3 F and dewpoint increases of 2 to 3F. This, combined with the cooling temperatures aloft, has actually increased instability ahead of this storm over the last 2 hours. Warm sector winds have veered slightly in the last hour which has reduced low-level shear slightly. However, there is still significant turning between the surface and the southwesterly low-level jet, and therefore, despite this slightly weaker shear, it likely won't have much of an impact on storm tornadic potential.
The likely catalysts for weakening this long-lived tornadic supercell will be eventual movement into low to mid 60s dewpoints and weaker instability, or storm interference as the storms to the west catch up with the lead supercell. Neither of these are expected to have an impact in the next hour, but may bring some reprieve after 06Z.

Tip of the cap to the Springfield MO weather office tonight. To have to take over for Paducah during this outbreak, seamlessly, is a job very well done.

Front likely plowing through here now. Winds literally just started howling, and wind chimes are a ringing after being still all night.

This outbreak, and this tornado in particular, will be one that is gonna be studied for a long, long time.

There are no words anymore to describe that thing. We likely witnessed history tonight. I just hate that lives were destroyed and taken.

It was apparently a pretty rough storm. Lots of train sounding reports and one report of a wind speed of 86mph from that cell. I was sent the photos below. It appears to possibly even have two cones on it and even had spotters arguing if one of the photos shows debris at the ground. Had a lot of spotters contact me about it and 3 are out trying to survey the area for any touchdown signs which was approximately 1/2 mile from Union, Mo Pasta House. And course the media is also working to obtain usage rights on the photos which I worked with to ok them for release freely before posted so media is free to use with source. So far so good though. No damage reports and that’s very lucky for a wedge like cell of this nature in my opinion. Pretty scared looking. imgur.com/gallery/aGAmkEt
