Now that daybreak is upon us the images from places like Edwardsville and especially Mayfield, KY is extremely heartbreaking. Prayers to those cities and families impacted and kudos to the NWS for attempting to convey the seriousness of the setup of severe weather last night.

Is folks in st.peters, cottleville, harvester are very fortunate and we have a lot to be thankful for that the tornado recycled over us unfortunately definace and edwardsville, my prayers are with you as well as all other major tornadic impacted areas.
I hope we do not see an outbreak like this again for a long while, and great job chris with your forecast and kudos to the SPC for their aggressive approach.
Also nws st louis great job on keeping up. It was nearly impossible with the speed these storms moved.
Heck at 6 p.m. they were in southwest missouri near the lake, and sirens were sounding in Metro by 725. Insane speed.
Also one more side note In st.peters I have never heard the tornado sirens sound the way they did once the damaging tornado was on the ground. It was a different tone.
I hope everyone stays safe today with the clean up.

Would MUCH rather have winter storms and snow than this destructive severe weather. Would be easier on everyone. My thoughts are with those affected last night throught the Midwest and Ohio valley.

Did Twitter change access for 'non-members'. Use to be able to click a tweet to pull up another story or weather persons site and now I only get a sign up or log on screen and can't go any further.

Some of the Mayfield photos I’ve seen of concrete slabs and large trees reduced to toothpicks are reminiscent of Joplin and likely EF5 in my opinion.

Heres the Practically Perfect Forecast for the outbreak last night. A high risk would of easily verified for E MO into Central IL. No surprise, a moderate to high risk also would've verified along the "quad state tornado" path

Yeah, I was going to say that pics from Mayfield look like Ef5 for sure. Just empty slabs. Sad sad. Be interesting to see if there was damage the entire length to call it the longest track tornado ever.

I haven't posted in the past couple of years but follow the board quite often when there is a major weather event affecting the area. I used to live in Pontoon Beach right by 111 and 270 fairly close to where the Amazon warehouse is located. My heart goes out to all who were affected by the storms last night. I know there have been some pretty bad outbreaks in November and I remember the New Year's Eve tornado that hit Fenton and Sunset Hills 11 years ago but this is something I never thought I would see during this time of year. As a teacher I normally come on here this time of year to see if we might have a snow day. Would like to get back to that for sure.

Have to wonder if we have another round of severe weather Wednesday night as the cold front slams into record high temperatures. If it happens, I would expect the threat to be further north this go around.
Then, hopefully we get snow next weekend or Christmas week

Be interesting to see if there was damage the entire length to call it the longest track tornado ever. It may have briefly lifted through a portion of TN but they may be able to find enough to say it stayed on the ground. This has been a debate over the years with regard to the Tri-State Tornado. Unfortunately we just got a real life simulation of what that one was like.

With so much focus on Mayfield, rightfully so, we really haven’t seen anything out of the boot heel other than the Live Storms Media close range footage.

Be interesting to see if there was damage the entire length to call it the longest track tornado ever. Agreed. I’d bet it gets an EF5 rating. Also looks to crush the tri state tornado in travel length by potentially carving a path length by 250+ miles or so. Tri State was 219 miles. That survey is going to be an extensive one.

Guy from WXRISK states the Mayfield, KY was EF4 rated but on the stronger end of. It was close and either way doesn't change the fact that it was a devastating storm that affected a lot of people through populated regions.
