So... made a post about the bad roads... mentioned that interstate was driveable... but anything off the interstate was getting to be impassable to non 4wD. Does that sound like a call for people to go driving? How is that turning into a thing? I'm getting called out by some because they think I'm telling people its ok to drive! Is that what it sounds like? How could they read something into my post that was the complete opposite of what I was intending? Am I losing it? Years ago I made a comment about half of all people having a below average intelligence. I had someone who wanted to argue that it wasn't accurate.

As people mentioned here it is tough to measure but after going through more than a dozen or so sites in front and back yard to get consistent number in area away from everything I kept getting 5 inches. I measured some of my drifts over a foot and one nearly two feet high. Wouldn’t surprise me if someone close to me picked up six inches and hoping to squeeze that out before it all comes to a stop.

Roxana has more than 6.5 but less than 7". The blowing and drifting is something else! Still snowing as well and 20* I guess now the super cold comes in for a few days?

Estimating 9“ for the two days in far northeast St. Peters. Pretty windblown so it's tough to get a very accurate measurement. VERY fine flakes still coming down but these aren't going to add up to much.

Also have seen two spin outs near my house as people turned into drifts off the main roads and were stuck. Mr. Higgins you aren’t losing it. People just like to use social media to do that stuff. One reason I have started to delete or intentionally use social media less. Just gets me upset or disappointed with direction of humanity and the inability of some to think or evaluate information versus just blasting their thoughts and posting them as facts. Seen the effect of keyboard warriors too much in my profession. I wouldn’t let it bother you a bit but understand why it did.

So there are some picks in my area as I shoveled today. It was a real pain with soooo much snow. One of the pics is the cable box just about buried, also retaining walls buried and just a ton of snow. I measured everywhere 10 to 25 inches with drifting. I think it is safe to say I recieved a solid foot. My parents in ofallon said they have a foot as well. Very very impressive storm. I can honestly say I am ready for spring now lol.

We measured 6-7 in in a couple places in our front yard in Festus, after that yucky freezing rain and sleet!

I’d say I’m in the 4-5 inch range here of new snow today. Will try to get a measurement later. That’s on top of probably 1.5” sleet. This has been a really cool storm for all of us to follow. Hope we can get one more, but this quenches the thirst for sure.
Still snowing pretty good here and the wind is definitely picking up.
I’m sure glad we only got the .10” of zr. This wind would have caused some big problems.
Just goes to show yet again every storm has its own unique story.

That puts us at around 5.5” for the storm. I think we easily break 6”

Still snowing 🌨 now. Pretty big flakes ❄️ actually. Measured several places in the yard. Measuring down to the frozen stuff yesterday, looks like I have an average of 6.75 inches today. After this round of snow, I'll go out and measure again. I actually thought it was winding down since it was just needles falling before. I'm getting a kick out of the number of people on Facebook who are asking if this storm is worse than 1982! REALLY??? Did social media hype it up that much? I guess all the clown maps people posted on Facebook, and people saying that it was going to be a storm of the century caused that reaction.

Looks to be the last burst of moderate snow in rural Festus. Sitting at 7.5” here. This was a fun one. Great job to all on recognizing the potential this storm had 8-10 days before it happened. Love this forum!

Is the moisture near OKC going to miss us to the south? It's not going to be much by the time it gets here, mood snow, maybe a dusting after midnight.

Anyone know what the temp departure was from normal in Jan? -1.6* from average lump sum normal of high and low temps at KSTL! You can probably find a smaller airport like KFAM near your hometown to see the small differences. www.weather.gov/wrh/climate?wfo=lsx

I just went out with the wife to check the chickens. Anyone know why in the world they poop in their water? After getting back I went around to my previous measuring sites. As I passed the boat I could see around 2" on the edge from when I cleaned it before. The boat is between the house and the outbuilding so not real accurate there. Previous spots were now a general 6" of snow and 7.5" thru 'the crust' to the grass. The driveway furthest from the house is 7" of all snow. I shoveled last evening to mostly bare concrete. THis measurement is also suspect because of the proximity of the boat. The grass in the front yard was 7" and 8.5" past 'the crust' to actual grass. Again, really not sure about this area either because of the wind direction coming off the roof toward the front yard. I'm sure the backyard lost snow to the wind also. This is pure guesswork. 6.5" snow from 2nd wave and 8" total adding 'the crust'. I will wait for either confirmation from surrounding MTW members or maybe a posting on the news from De Soto proper. And keep bringing the green radar returns. Moderate snow and blowing snow, small flakes again, vis 3/8-1/2 mile, temp 19* 7 miles west of De Soto. Really seems to be some drying/weakening sneaking in at central MO/AR border. Is your waterer elevated above the coop floor? If not, try placing it on some bricks or concrete block 4-6 inches above the floor. That should help, but chickens are just filthy animals. Delicious, but filthy. Also, I'm really glad to see y'all got a decent storm not only to track, but to watch come to fruition. Have fun in your snow! Yes, they are elevated. That was in reference to one hen that we (wife) have had in the 'Chicken Hospital' (big dog kennel) for a week now in our garage. She had been pecked pretty bad and the 'Nurse' fixed her up and she will be ready to be discharged to the big coop by Monday the 'Nurse' is figuring. We also have 6 Banty's (The Renegades) that we have let out everyday since we got them back in summer of 2019. But during inclement weather we don't let them out so they are not used to being 'cooped' up. Finally used the saying accurately. Thanks for the congrats on the storm. It has been awhile. This storm made a lot of people happy I'm sure.

So folks we now had our big one. I am govong this winter a solid A from this storm alone as it was a bonafide winters storm with warning criteria across the board. And this with the 3 inches or so a few weeks ago gets us bout normal for this point in the season. Which in my opinion anything over a 10 inch season total in st.louis I am happy with as ir seems tough to get storms like this anymore.
I am looking back from 10 days ago, and I genuinely feel that the GFS did the best for us.
Yes the numbers were high, but it pretty well nailed the main band and fro. 10 days out was within 50 to 100 miles which is very solid forecasting.
Ok story over, I would love some input on what you guys think and what model we think really did well.
