You do know what’s in the snow coming down right? Lmao. atmosphere. It's perfectly fine. I grew up eating snow ice cream. I'm still alive. I quit for a while after my earth science teacher in 10th grade said there is a condensation nuclei that helps form the clouds...but, again I'm alive. I remember an old wives tale stating not to eat snow cream from the first snow of the season. Now, I chuckle at that advice. I think the sugar will do more harm than any condensation nuclei.

oh and my mother would put raw egg in her recipe. i just tried it without the raw egg - 5 cups snow, cup of milk, 1/2 cup sugar, couple teaspoons of vanilla...voila...not bad. I survived raw eggs too.

my mother put raw egg in lot of stuff - she made the best milkshakes. I later found out she used raw eggs just to get protein in me. I ruptured my spleen when I was 7 and had to have it removed. I would not eat hardly anything and she said she wanted to get some egg in me. Oh, how times have changed.

Lmao. atmosphere. It's perfectly fine. I also made ice cream with rumchata. Terrific stuff Heck... my Mom would make snow ice cream back in the 60's and 70's for my sister and I when they were doing nuclear testing in Nevada. I guess no one worried about fallout this far away. I bet she made it 3 or 4 times a year back then, and I don't glow... not very brightly anyway!

Took some video today of the huge snowdrifts between my house and the neighbor's and tagged WeatherNation in a tweet and they asked if they could use it on the air. Now I just got a tweet from The Weather Channel asking me if they could air it. That's pretty cool! No clue when it'll air.

In terms of impacts, this storm is up there with the notorious ones like 1996 and 2014 which both blew roads shut locally. I think this one rivals both when you factor in the power outages. The road commissioners are reporting road closures with 3-5' deep drifts across some of the W-E open stretches. A true crippler.

Moderate to heavy snow currently in Salem, IL and 18*. It started this intensity about 15 minutes ago, it was only light snow before that.

Still snowing in Marissa when I left the house this morning. Decent sized flakes. Nice seeing some come down while the wind wasn't blowing 100mph. Road crews did a good job overnight--kudos to them and all of you plow guys. And, of course, big shout out to Chris for another great forecast. I didn't watch Ch 2 last night, but at least one of the others was giving themselves a well-deserved pat on the back. You should, too.
Whatever is in the snowflakes coming down is probably no worse than what's in all of the processed food we eat every day. I've had it with and without eggs. Never with Rumchata, until later tonight. We'll be tearing into that 3' snow drift on the front porch for that.

KSTL reported 1.55" of liquid over the last 3 days and 6.7" of snow. Could you break that down into different phases of the storm...rain, sleet/ZR and snow? Be a lot cooler if ya did. I still need to get an 8" gauge for SLR calculations. Or at least fix the sensor on the Davis that's been broken for like 8 years, lol

KSTL reported 1.55" of liquid over the last 3 days and 6.7" of snow. Yeah, but a good chunk of that was rain (~0.75") and then there was ice (FZRA/PL) before it switched to snow.

Amounts from people here in town came in as low as 4.5 to as high as 8.2..lol. Measuring this stuff was difficult here in town (as was across all of the CWA) because of the drifting, but the official measurement for Salem, IL was 6 inches. That was after the 0.15" ice accretion and 1/4 of sleet. That's a very high impact event in my book and a long time since a winter event of that magnitude has happened in our area.
