Surprised nobody has mentioned the euro for next Friday-Saturday Talk about a dream run I looked at the GFS real quick on my phone and was about to exit out and clicked on the euro and my eyes almost popped out of my head.

The GFS tries to get a lil something going, but it's firmly planted in the N stream and there is no secondary like the EURO shows. Not sure which way to lean yet...need to dig in a bit I guess.

00z GEFS throws some support to the EC with some semblance of a secondary developing and post-frontal snowfall tied to it looking at the mean mass fields.

Daughter that lives about 5 minutes from here, close to Davis, said they had one heck of a storm. They had crazy wind and hail.we had some wind and rain, but no hail.

Icon is supportive of the euro with a good hit of snow Friday. Also gfs is a little closer to this at 12z.

looking like it's something we need to keep an eye on for sure now...end of week that is. At this point, I personally would like to see how things transpire after we get this pretty strong system past us tonight...Haven't seen the latest forecasts, but I know last night was a bit of an overperformer in terms of rainfall. ams is moving pretty fast, so I wouldn't expect a long duration, but rather a quick hit of wintry weather end of week. Hopefully we start to get some consensus in the next day or two on impact/amounts. I do think we'll get snowfall, but whether we are talking about impacts or not, will depend on factors that other smarter people can weigh in on as we get closer.

12z euro ensembles have quite a few absolute bombs in there for late week.
From a pressure standpoint, equivalent to a borderline CAT 3 hurricane as the low reaches Detroit.
Maybe we get another Cleveland Superbomb.

Wow the GFS, euro and gem all have a very similar look at H5 and all have a ton of energy affecting along a boundary that they currently is progressive with allowing an Arctic intrusion in part because the SE ridge is gone.
This is how we get major winter storm on a phasing system not having a SE ridge
