After watching the radar of this system coming in toward me for an hour I can't believe how little rain we got. Is there a different mode that the National Weather Service uses on their radar? It sure looked like we were going to get a lot more rain than we did. But I am not kidding I am dumbfounded by how little rain we got while watching the radar on the National Weather Service site. I guess I got to quit griping if I'm not going to pay for anything I got no reason to gripe.

Nice hailer east, southeast of Belleville now moving almost due east. Probably some nickels or even quarters in there.

Not a single drop of rain here in Arnold the last 3 days, I think this is 10+ days without rain now.

Belleville cell probably should have been warned. Metro east crime page has a few pics of quarter sized hail

Another feisty storm here in Perryville at the moment. Crazy intense lightning, strong wind, and more hail. More dimes with this one than last night. A few a little bigger than that.

It's getting to the point where a garden variety thunderstorm is notable here anymore...let alone severe weather.
Hopefully this week brings some soaking rain. Things have really dried out after the past 5-6 days of heat. It definitely looks unsettled with good potential for locally heavy rainfall.

GFS sure is bullish with the potential tropical development into the Gulf towards next weekend...even the GEFS mean shows a coherent trof lifting north between Yucatan and Cuba. The large scale pattern looks favorable, with a ridge building over FL and an ejecting trof into the Plains that would provide an outflow channel over this theoretical storm.

I got a few pics of the Eclipse with my Panasonic Lumix DSLR. It is crazy how much better they are than a cellphone camera especially due to the optical zoom.

Honestly this is getting to be a chore watching the severe weather potential this year (and recent past years). It seems we just can't be pessimistic enough with forecasts for our area. And then much of our severe (including significant severe) comes when it is more uncertain. Having said that, taking a huge risk of being wrong again, I think there are a few days to keep an eye out this week. At this point probably Friday looks the most interesting. SPC has highlighted this day for our area the last two days. I actually don't think rain & clouds are going to be a hinderance this time; however, I am still a bit surprised SPC has be introducing threat areas this far out given that the mid-level jet and instability don't appear to be overlapping very much on this day except perhaps in a very narrow corridor that may include our area.

Agreed...you'd think I would have learned by now not to hedge towards increased risk of severe these days. That said...multiple rounds of storms are looking likely this week. Elevated hailers and flash flooding look to be the primary threat until the weekend when the longwave trof ejects out. Like you said, the mid-level jet max spreads into the region...but will the instability be able to overlap it? It didn't happen yesterday, with the stronger winds aloft lagging the forcing and instability plume. We'll see. The pattern looks to stay active into next week as well.

Great pics of the Moon I got out last night and looked, 1/3 covered. it was around 10 or a little before. Also my 13 year old granddaughter was asked to and sang the National Anthem at St Francois Fairgrounds for the opening race of the season. I didn't get a chance to get there but I've heard her before. I already know she did great.😊😍👍

What are the early conditions for Memorial Day weekend. If the models go out that far yet. Right now it looks like it will continue to be unsettled into next week and into the holiday weekend... But that's pretty far out. It will change I'm sure.
