From The NWS St. Louis 12pm Update

That was my hope with the cloudy, rainy conditions all morning. I am still worried about the completely saturated ground in my area and big trees with even 45-50 mph winds. 7 miles west of De Soto.

I was totally seeing the lack of severe potential earlier this morning. Half gut feeling/half short term models. I was like, "no way, will the atmosphere recover in time..." grrrrr
Hope this isn't the norm this season...

I wouldn't say overhyped. If things were just a little different it would have been a bad day. The right message was sent. It'll just make some people not trust mets even more unfortunately.

Appropriately hyped, given the information at the time. I'd much rather have the information in front of the masses and it not materialize than withhold the information and it does. The same people would be calling for mets' heads if that happened.
Kudos to them for putting it on the line--it's a thankless job.

Look at that rain shield exploding west of us. Look at the interaction of 'everything' over STL in a 8 hour Composite Base loop. Wow, rather chaotic. Clicky

I'm just glad the situation did not develop the way they were talking about the last 2 days.

The severe talk started last week for here since all the activity was happening in the Deep South.

I really thought there would be more rapid destabilization this morning despite the scattered showers and storms around but that just wasn't the case...short-term models were substantially overbaked with CAPE forecasts.

I still have a little apprehension from the 2011 Good Friday. Closest I have ever been to a Tornado.

The storms today make for good sleeping weather. Would've been nice to have a big thunderstorm roll through. Love the adrenaline rush! When we lived in Oklahoma, I always found the "low risk" days to be the ones with the most action.

Things aren’t looking overly impressive in the moderate risk so far. Lots of junkvection working over the atmosphere down there.

Kevin Deitsch has sent out an email as well regarding this event titled "What Happened to the Severe Weather Today" to all the partners who attend the conference calls with a graphic explaining what happened. I feel for all the forecasters as they will take it on the chin over this. Everything pointed to a substantial severe weather day, today just reaffirms the fact that the data available to the meteorologists isnt flawless or perfect.

Yeah, for a lot of people, one such close encounter is enough. Im personally done with severe weather here at home until im ready for a new roof. That shouldnt be until several years down the road. The rain has for the most part been gentle enough as well. I do get a kick out of ppl who bash forecasters on social media for not having severe verified. Guessing a lot of them dont own property. Lol.

Lol. The overwhelming majority of folks just don't have any real concept of just how dangerous and destructive severe weather and tornadoes are. I learned from an early age when my great aunt's place in Calhoun Co. got hit by an F2 tornado that removed the roof of her house and killed her neighbor. I'll never forget seeing the insulation and drywall scattered out into the trees and the splintered 2x4s stuck in the ground.

Just like any other dangerous situation, when you've been grazed by the proverbial reality bullet, it loses it's charm. Better to be prepared for something bad that may happen and it doesn't, than to be unprepared for something bad, and it does. To me, the proper response is to say 'thank you'.

Shortly after I retired from the Navy, I worked for the broadcast company and was dispatched to Vilonia Arkasas. Nothing can prepare you for just how COMPLETE... the destruction is. I don't wish that for anyone.

That’s all everyone talked about yesterday and this morning, news/schools sent out texts/ work everyone was talking about “severe storms and tornadoes “ great to get the word out, but at my office everyone is now talking about how over hyped the forecast was. Someone just mentioned today was like most of our winter storms that get predicted and never materialize… We didn’t even get thunder or lightning, no wind just some light to moderate rain.
