After the gorgeous 2 weeks of weather today was pretty ugly. Off topic and a Public Service Announcement. I don't think there will be a 'moderator' issue here, but anymore, who knows. Women, please stay vigilant with your mammagraphy screenings. If you have not any screenings yet please reconsider and get them set up. Early, early detection is the key. We just had a scare with my wife but it was caught very, very early. It is still a major upset of normal daily life but nothing like it 'could have' been. Stay vigilant and if you are at the age or in the risk group and have not had any screenings, please do yourself and your family a favor by starting now. It really makes a difference. And if you are over age 50 please get a colonoscopy; age 40 if there is a family history. The prep for it is worse than the actual procedure. And follow your doctor's recommendation for when to get the next one.

Yep, early detection is key and can make a huge difference in the outcome. Not only with breast cancer but others as well. Same thing with Colonoscopies. Everyone I know that has bad colon cancer outcomes was younger than "recommended" or didn't get them once they were old enough. Prep is the only real problem. 30 years ago before Propofol, they were rough.

My dear husband of 37 years had his last colonoscopy 10 yrs ago which was clear. The end of July was his first one since and a mass was found, a golfball size. After a CT scan and one more scope by a GI doc, we met with a surgeon who will remove it next Tues along with some adjoining colon and a few lymph nodes and reconnect the two colon parts and stay in hospital for a couple days to observe and hoping for a neg pathology report! He will be 64 the day before surgery! Please keep us in thought and prayer!

They were able to get the mass by taking a portion of the colon. He didn't need chemo but it was a very scary time for the family.

Odds are favoring a tropical system in the GOM next week.

Odds are favoring a tropical system in the GOM next week. I noticed the EURO had a pretty decent looking storm moving through the Yucatan Straight...might be a watcher for the mainland US after Fiona becomes a fish storm past Puerto Rico. Nova Scotia looks to take a good hit from the post-tropical remnants as it phases with the jet though.

Get the colonoscopy starting at 45 unless there is a family history. mammograms earlier than that. PSA for guys starting at 40 or 45.
Thankful that this awful heat will be gone before the Belleville Marathon on Saturday. Those folks train so hard and they deserve to have a good run.

Thankful that this awful heat will be gone before the Belleville Marathon on Saturday. Those folks train so hard and they deserve to have a good run. I started at 37 with the colonoscopy. Schedule early or bring roses for the nurse who has to deal with you. We have volunteered for the marathon several times. My neighbor coordinates volunteers and her husband is running. I was just telling him last night how glad I am that it will be cooler for them.

As the tropics heat up tropicaltidbits.com is getting hammered. Dr. Cowan tweeted that he is disabling some features in an effort to keep it responsive. It's still loading very slowly for me though.

Like you said, way out there...but models are suggesting a light shear environment developing in the Gulf with bathwater SSTs...that's a recipe for a strong storm.

GFS Fiona hour 96. Yikes. Frankie McDonald sounded the alarm yesterday! And it's not just the GFS. There is a lot of model support to suggest the potential for a historic Canadian landfall.

That may become one of the strongest sub-tropical storms on record if model trends hold. That phasing is ideal for rapid deepening.

Frankie McDonald sounded the alarm yesterday! And it's not just the GFS. There is a lot of model support to suggest the potential for a historic Canadian landfall. Newfoundland was hit with some hefty flooding just two or three weeks ago as a extra tropical system moved up the coast. I'd bet they haven't recovered from that yet.

Luckily near-surface moisture mixed out a bit this afternoon with lowering dewpoints...it was a straight up sauna around 10 this morning! But man is this a scorcher for late September for sure.

Getting a baseline test is very important. My understanding, for psa for example, is that cancer is detected based on changes in the results from the baseline, rather than discovery through imaging for the first time. Im guilty myself on some of the tests bc of their unpleasantness (mail order tests that you see advertised are not typically encouraged by the medical community that ive asked, so do the old school tests).
Medicare used to keep calling me and telling me to get caught up on colonoscopy or face the possibility of not being covered when i turn 65. Those calls started when i turned 50, but they seemed to have ceased since i havent responded in the past couple years. Ive always thought that was a scam, and i have no idea how they know what tests ive done or not done. But they dont appear to be wanting any info from me. I dont take phone calls from ppl i dont know, so all i get are voice mails warning me of the coverage consequences if i dont test.
All i know, is it is important to establish baselines. Now if i would just practice what i preach. Lol
