We’ve lost power twice so far in Shrewsbury. My A/C is not happy about it either.

The heat and wind combo is like a time capsule to 2012 today. This summer is like a lite version of 2012...so far

Too be fair, Dave's predictions have been spot on so far with 1/3rd of the meteorological Summer days from being under our belts. July and most of August don't look much better. However upcoming Autumn looks like a wet one with perhaps an active secondary severe storm season.

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet, but are fireworks a "go" for next weekend/4th? I know we have some pyros in here. Seems a bit dry, no?

Seems like there was a lot more talk of postponing or cancelling firework displays in 2012 than this year. I mean, it's pretty crispy out there. I would think there would be some calls made this week to cancel.

I think we will be ok for the fourth this year. The EPS has widespread precipitation between now and then so we shouldn’t be bone dry

Temperature wise this has been one of the best summers ever. Unfortunately, the dry air and lack of precip isn’t great. It’s nearly impossible to get great temps and plenty of rain in the summer here, however.

1. I didn't realize Lake Michigan was so frigid still.
2. Where's that MCS in Iowa gonna go?

That heat build up later this week means business. With the heat and winds, if we dont get rain, theres going to be some fire danger. Im not sure we will get rain.

I do believe preceeding the major heatwave in 2012, we had winds, and texas baked...although i believe it was a couple weeks earlier. Concerns me for august for sure.. we might repeat, just a bit later and going into september as well.

The brunt of 2012 hit in late june though. I remember that first 108 degree day and then like 10-15 days straight of 100+. Many days would be at 100 by 10am.

Models are looking a little better for that cluster surviving overnight and into the morning which would bring most at least some rain. Let's hope.

The explanation of dry heat and wet heat on the disco this morning was really great. More of that would be excellent. Good stuff

Came back home to it from Florida in late June. I do remember the early summer as well, but things got going with 100+ about this time 11 years ago.

Only the ICON seems to be a slam dunk with the MCS potential tomorrow afternoon/evening. Most other models are either high and dry or well south west of the area. Looks like better prospects for rain might finally start arriving this coming weekend and just after the 4th. We'll see if that holds true, or if it just dries out again and goes hotter.

June 28th is the first day in that string of daily records from 2012. The temp hit 108 that day.

First time seeing "Areas smoke"

First time seeing "Areas smoke" Might wanna grab those N95 masks later this afternoon/evening. Pretty dense cloud of smoke coming right down Illinois. Already some very unhealthy to near hazardous air quality values around Chicago with Unhealthy levels entering Springfield area. Might get there this evening into the metro area. Might struggle to get much more south of that.
Air Quality Alert has been issued as of 12:40PM for most of the area.

Can confirm. Very smoky in Geneva, IL. Can barely feel the sun.
