This is the worst near-surface smoke/haze I've seen yet...vis is around 2mi here in Brighton.

Smoke here in Belleville now. Wasn't much a half hour ago, but now it's hazy and visibility is down a bit too. Also smells a bit smokey too.

Smoky and smells like it out here in Shrewsbury. Was watering the plants! Interesting summer to say the least.

I was just outside for the last hour or so with my grandson fishing at the pond it's a beautiful beautiful evening Crystal Clear Skies down here it doesn't appear to have made it this far yet. Hope it doesn't make it🤞🤞🤞
I have heard of Acapulco Gold but I never heard of Patchy Smoke before.🤪🤪🤪🤪😁
Edit: Also, grandson caught a beautiful bluegill and a 1 lb bass. He had a big catfish but it bent his hook and got loose. All I heard on the ride back to the out building on the four-wheeler was.."You didn't catch any fish Papa, you didn't catch any fish Papa."🤣🤣🤣

GFS sure is spunky with rain and storms over the next few days into the weekend. Let's hope that happens and keeps our temps down.

Feel like headachy congested junk, don't know if it's allergies or all this smoke. When walking the dog yesterday, just over the span of a half hour it rolled in and all the trees across the park took on a haze. I want rain, and I do hope this crud clears out soon.

This summer has been the weirdest In my life. Not that Im that old but in my 30 years I never saw smoke like we have had, and i have not been feeling myself either. I also dont remember an el nino developing like this this early in the year after a la nina. Its just been crazy the pattern and rapid onset drought we have had. Hope it eases soon with some rain starting this weekend.

There is a large spread between the official NWS forecast and the NBM forecast. NWS is going with 101 F. NBM says 105 F. The big issue is how models are handling the PBL. The GFS mixes out the dewpoints and thus cranks the temperature up to 110 F. The ECMWF on the other hand keeps dewpoints high and caps the temperature at 94 F. Obviously the GFS is the cause of the higher forecast. That has to be the biggest spread between the GFS and ECMWF that I have ever seen.

The GFS clearly has some thermo issues...NWS said it was showing mixing levels around 600mb...I think it's a safe bet that it's overdone.
It'll be interesting to see how far SW that complex can make it.

That cell just S of Champaign has to be one of the strongest cells I’ve seen.

I reckon we don’t have a prayer for that complex to affect us do we? Looks further south than models had it.

OK this is kind of weird… I am in the enhanced risk area for storms today but yet the national weather service doesn’t have any precipitation chances?

Yea, NWS hasn't updated the forecasts to reflect the updates.
Hopefully this thing can get a cold pool going behind it and force it to make that right turn. We need a river bender!

I wish those storms in northern Missouri would make the turn to the right very soon and drop through here.

Pretty wild how the complex in Indiana was heading east/southeast then some major developement and backbuilding on the southwestern edge that had almost cleared IL, then started building south and west along 64 back to the Miss. River and those cells heading south. I don't want severe weather, but what are the chances the complex in MO will do that and clip us?

www.spc.noaa.gov/products/md/md1336.htmlShould stay well north of the Metro until Springfield, IL then turn southeast. NAM harps on about MCS development overnight for the I-70/I-64 corridor however. BRTN might get in on today's MCS derecho however.

Hearing talk of firework cancellations if areas dont get soakers beforehand. Im thinking, most areas should go ahead and cancel. Things are not going to green up with any amount of rain. I know its a hard decision.

Getting dark clouds to the north from what I can guess is the outflow boundary down here in Belleville. Might get a gust of wind but sadly no rain.
