both gfs and euro show temps over 100 mid part of next week. Last time I checked globals it looked like the ridge was going to flex it's muscles a bit next week...sounds like that's still the case

Sure would like to see what the weather pattern looked like in 1954, and what the forecasted temperatures were like.

That month shows the highest temperature departure above average then July or June. August looks pretty bone dry too. Rest of July looks to see us in northwesterly flow with a hot day here and there but nothing extreme or long lasting, with dwindling rain chances as we go through time. Also huge massive plume of fresh smoke is pouring out of Canada again which should arrive here in later this weekend, so look out for more bad air quality and possible smokey smells again into next week.

Just drove back from Pacific and after getting on to Hwy 30 west from Hwy W I noticed some towers growing. When I crested the big hill just before going down into the Big River valley I was wondering if these towers were orographically lifted by the terrain change? Anyway, after getting home and looking at the radar and can see these small cells/showers on radar in a NW to SE line but moving due north. Will this be the focus point for the afternoon storms? Seems to go along with the outlined area on NWS site.

My wife and I are going on 6+ years without local TV and close to 10 without cable. Sometimes I could use a support group to help me along. I don't understand the 'targeting' of the Fox channel. Is it just the Fox2 News DirectTV is dropping or the whole channel? I would watch other news stations from time to time (mainly weather segments) but would always watch Fox2 for news. Wonder if there is a 'conflict of interest' hiding somewhere or are they able to 'target' advertising that well anymore? I just seen this headline today and this is the main reason we shut it down in our house. This just happens to be a major news outlet, lots more examples to choose from. Hopefully this isn't 'out of bounds' for the blog. In weather news, "Gosh, it's hot." I also see some storms have fired on that boundary I mentioned. CNN headline on 7/14/23 A weekslong heat wave will intensify this weekend and push temperatures close to 130 degrees.

that headline is true. 130 in death valley possible. no one is targeting stations. all about money Maybe I look at things wrong. It's the 'sensationallizing' I refer to. Why didn't the 'Headline' state the 130* was for Death Valley. I am pretty sure your other comment is 100%. It's ALL about the money. I have no idea how Cable TV works (advertising) but isn't Fox2 News/Station free with a basic antenna? That is what we had after stopping cable, just the local stations.

Cell getting frisky as it moves into Dupo, IL. Couldn't maintain into Belleville. Pathetic. Nope, took the 'Belleville Bypass' and danced around everywhere but. Only to reform around O'Fallon and Scott, AFB with another cell around Freeburg and Smithton. Maybe we'll get something later this evening. But not counting on it.

Very odd if you watch the radar loop, it could not expand above the bluff. and the eastern edge of the storm stayed right on the bluff line.

CNN headline on 7/14/23 A weekslong heat wave will intensify this weekend and push temperatures close to 130 degrees. It's not that station is a Fox affiliate. It's all the stations owned by Nexstar which is a substantial number of stations across the country.

Just for the record, with the last storm’s stuff, had some wind gusts, didn’t think anything of it. So this am, hubs goes onto the backyard and we have two large branches down on a redbud. Broken in the same angle so I think that it was probably a serious rogue wind gust. Must have been a doozy, both were over three inches thick. Healthy too, just had an arborist checking out my backyard a few months ago. Took down a dead tree and trimmed a few others, that one included. So no dead wood.
First time having real tree damage since the ice storm of ‘07. Weird since wind usually hits perpendicular to what this did.
