I don't envy those linemen. They've been mostly working in the heat and humidity since the weekend before the 4th restoring power only to have a bunch of customers get knocked out by another round of storms.
I wonder if it's a worse job in the heat or the bitter cold after an ice storm.
Asked my buddy that last night as he was fishing the tree top off the power line. He said 100% snow/ice. They have heated vests, gloves etc. They were drenched and covered in saw dust and mud. He got home at around 3am. Great $$$$$

I've never seen winds like we had yesterday afternoon. Lots of trees down, or parts of trees down. Hard to say how much rain we got because it was horizontal! We were without power here in South County for 23 hours. Hoping for a good night's sleep tonight!

Seeing that monsoonal flow getting entrained into the NW flow makes me think there is going to be some big rainfall numbers somewhere close to here this week.

I could handle getting power back so the sump pump can run before that happens, please and thanks.

Lots of agreement for several inches to up to a foot of rain along or just west of the Mississippi River between Tuesday night into Thursday Morning. I'd keep a close eye on this. Also looks like the next 'heat wave' will be blunted a bit by more storms and a farther west placement of the ridge. So seasonably hot this coming weekend, but nothing crazy in sight.

Lot of green on radar the past couple hours right on top of me, but not a drop here??

Lot of green on radar the past couple hours right on top of me, but not a drop here?? I've got the same thing. I know it's raining in some areas - witness Jamie Travers holding an umbrella while doing her live report at 5 PM. It looks like it should be raining here but the pavement is dry.

tomorrow night is looking rough per the NAM, which favors areas west of town, particularly Washington County, Warren County, and St. Charles County. Definitely think Bellevillewxguy is correct in that we need to be watchful for this.

GFS looks bogus - ec and nam seem to line up well in agreement. would imagine by this time tomorrow night, most of us will be under flash flood watch, especially west of the river.

The WPC discussion for tomorrow did mention a likely upgrade to moderate risk.
Most likely area just west of STL

Radar is lit up heavy in Central Missouri this morning. That should help the drought. From the looks of it waaaay too much help.

Pretty crazy setup for tonight. Seems like some lack of consistency in model qpf on where the train sets up, so if i sort of take a compromise on what i think is the best bet...in mo...montgomery, callaway, warren, lincoln, st charles, franklin jefferson, washington, crawford. These areas i think stand the potential for 4 or more inches of rain. Hoping the 12z models offer clarity.

I'll take this rainy and cloudy pattern all day long for what is typically the hottest and most stagnant time of the year!
