My attempt to dip my toy into the rapidly building social media buzz without posting snowfall maps which are already flying around social media!

Sorry to hear about your mom, Snowman. Prayers for peace for your family.
Been outside this afternoon. It sure feels chilly down here in Farmington.

12z EPS looks like pure winter around/after the 10th with a classical 4 Corners ejection and a massively deep trof developing across N America. And the lead system next weekend still shows some potential for wintry weather around here.

00z gfs and ggem maintain the shift towards an active and wintry pattern with a parade of potential storms.
Not a bad way to end 2023!
Happy New Year!

Does that mean more rain than snow for us?

Does that mean more rain than snow for us? Yeah, this run favors central Missouri for heavy snow. It digs a bit longer than we want scouring some of the cold air. Ideally, it comes out a bit quicker and gets a bit further east before bombing. Regardless, excellent to see all the models continue to show a big storm in the region around 8-10th. Things will bounce around a lot run to run.

A forecaster online is suggesting the mid-week storm next week could be similar to the great Groundhog Day storm.

A forecaster online is suggesting the mid-week storm next week could be similar to the great Groundhog Day storm. I'm still concerned about the cutting potential of that big storm ejecting out next week...it doesn't look like there will be a strong blocking ridge over it which will allow it to lift quickly if it deepens rapidly like many models show. Hopefully it can dig pretty far south into the Great Basin before ejecting out. The lead storm this weekend still shows decent potential for snowfall around here although the GEM/EC show a pretty disorganized system as it's quickly shearing out/dampening as it approaches. The overall picture is for a train of storms to impact the US over the next couple weeks and progressively colder as arctic air drains southward. Hopefully we can cash in with at least one of those storms. The ongoing strat warming event seems to be working to shake up the stale pattern we've been in for several months now.

Good news and bad news so far on the 12z suite.
Good news is the gfs and ggem continue to advertise a big storm around the 9th/10th.
Bad news is they favor areas more north and west today.
Since it is so far out, I am just happy to see a consistent signal for a big storm and generally colder air after it passes.

That is a powerhouse trough on the GFS for the 9th/10th system
You don’t see those everyday

The other good news is the 12z gfs continues the parade of storms with deep cold dropping in from the north.
All our eggs are not in one basket.
