Random trivia for your cold Saturday...
From Mon thru Fri, Des Moines airport recorded 22.3" of snow (12.4" Mon-Wed, 9.9" thru midnight last night).
That is 2nd on record for a 5-day total.

That band out west is looking healthy.
It would be nice to get the ground coated before being thrown in the deep freezer

To me radar does not look too good. But thats just me A lot of times these types of systems don't look very robust on radar due to the low reflectivity of smaller, dry snow flakes. Also, the lift is fairly low in the atmosphere.

Up to a coating. Iโm grateful for whatever will fall at this point. That's what I'm saying. At least there's a little weather with this wicked front. Winds have really picked up behind it.

I mean. Cโmon! Memphis under WSW: 4-6โ expected.
Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right. Here I am stuck in the middle (with all yโall).
How do we NOT get the NW nudge when we need it, but only get it when we donโt. Mother Nature is cruel and wicked.

Glad I menrioned this little stinker the other day. It is a beautiful steady powder light snow here. Dusting the grass quickly. This could lead to slick roads with a quick melt and freeze due to traffic flow.

If you look at a historical tornado track map there is always a lull in tracks in central MO. Have to think thatโs the influence of the ozark terrain.

My sons are both in different locations in the state today. One is in Moberly covering a sporting event, and says the snow-cover up there is beautiful. My other son, a college man, drove back to Springfield today, after reading social media comments by Chris regarding the weather, and students heading back to school. He made it safely and I'm so glad he went back earlier today rather than waiting until the real brutal cold moved in. Thanks Chris!
